UHL names players of the year

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Quad City Mallards defenseman Dale Lupul has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Port Huron Flags goaltender Dustin Traylen has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 4th, 2007.

Lupul completed the week with six points (4g, 2a), four penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in three games played. On a three-game goals streak, he started the week by tallying a short-handed goal in a 4-3 win over the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday. He recorded two goals and two assists in a 6-1 victory over the Komets on Friday with one goal and both assists coming on the power play. His other goal came in a 4-3 shootout loss to Rockford on Saturday. It is his first weekly honor of the season, and the 27-year-old native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, has recorded 35 points (16g, 19a) this season while playing for Quad City and the Elmira Jackals.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center John Spoltore, Chicago forward Todd Grant, Elmira right wing Frank Littlejohn, Flint left wing Jeff Zehr, Fort Wayne defenseman Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon center Todd Robinson, Port Huron center Greg Bullock and Rockford center Kevin Ulanski.

Traylen finished the week with a 2-1-0 record, a 1.67 goals against average (GAA) and a .944 save percentage (.SPCT). He tallied his fourth shutout of the season on Saturday, tying him for second in the UHL in shutouts, by making 32 saves in a 4-0 win against Fort Wayne. He stopped 23 shots in a 5-2 win over Elmira on Sunday, and he made 29 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Rockford IceHogs on Friday. It is the first weekly honor for the 25-year-old native of Kirkland, Quebec. Traylen currently ranks fifth in the UHL with a 2.55 GAA and a .918 SPCT.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Brenden Cuthbert, Elmira's Dave Lemanowicz, Flint's Jason Muzzati, Fort Wayne's Dan McWhinney, Kalamazoo's Ryan Nie, Muskegon's Ryan Cyr, Quad City's Jason Tapp and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
