Moline, IL- The Quad City Mallards improved to 31-26-10 on the season and are now six points back of the seventh seeded Missouri River Otters after a 3-2 victory. The Mallards also put three standings points between themselves and Flint as the Generals fell 6-4 to the Kansas City Outlaws.
The Mallards took a 1-0 lead 15:01 into the first period on Frantisek Skladany's seventh goal of the season. Newcomer Jamie Thompson and A.J. MacLean earned assists on the goal.
The Mallards scored twice in the middle frame. Patrick Nadeau tallied his 12th goal of the season and Terry Hollinger recorded his ninth marker of the year.
The River Otters would make things interesting in the third. Former St. Louis Blues star Jamal Mayers made it a 3-1 game just over six minutes into the final period. Barrie Moore and fellow NHLer Barret Jackman earned assists on the goal. With 1:10 left in the contest, Missouri pulled goaltender Jason Tapp for an extra attacker. Lars Pettersen scored unassisted with 25 seconds left in the game to set the final at 3-2. Robert Gherson made 27 saves en route to his 18th win of 2004-05.
The Mallards are in Kansas City to take on the Outlaws tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The First Capital Financial Pre-Game show gets underway at 12:35 p.m. central time. After the game, stay tuned for the All-State Insurance Del Newton/Christy Cox Post-Game show. The Mallards return to home ice on Sunday to host the Adirondack Frostbite. The 4-for-$40 package returns to The MARK on Family Fun-Day Sunday. For $40, fans receive four upper sideline tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas. Before the game, fans are invited down to the ice for a pre-game skate from 1:15-2:00 p.m. The QC Family Fun Jumps Bounce House will also be at the game to entertain young fans.
