Mallards Offense Struggles in Loss to Green Bay

Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Mallards opened up a two-game homestand with a 5-2 loss against the Green Bay Rockers Monday night.

The second game of the season series between the two clubs was massively different from the first in Green Bay yesterday afternoon. Madison scored 11 runs on Sunday with a season-high 15 hits. Rockers' starter Dylan Carter (8.0 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K) was spectacular for Green Bay in their second win of the season, snapping a 6-game losing skid. The Ducks were unable to convert on all their three hits against Carter, who earned his first win of the year moving his record to 1-1. Beau Nichols started for the Mallards and was able to erase a couple of baserunners through the first four innings. The trouble arose in the 5th inning with an error on Nichols on a swinging bunt. A walk and double from Tristian Garcia scored the first run of the game. The Rockers would go on to score three in the frame and would add two more through the rest of the contest.

The Warner Park crowd finally had something to cheer about in the bottom of the 9th against Jacob Conover. After recording two outs to begin the inning, Chrisitan Rivera rolled into what looked like a routine groundball to end the game. Rockers shortstop Daniel Hudson threw the ball away to extend the inning. Conover walked the next three batters to bring the tying run to the plate in the form of Ryan Taylor. Green Bay turned to Calvin Hunt to shut things down. Taylor worked himself into a full count and eventually struck out to end the game.

The Mallards have an off-day on a full Northwoods League break for the first time in 2022 before taking on Lakeshore on Wednesday night. Northwoods League coverage can be found on the Madison Mallards website under Live Action.
