Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters (2-6) couldn't overcome 13 free passes as the Kalamazoo Growlers (4-4) easily took game two of the series 12-4.
The Pit Spitters started the scoring early with a two-RBI triple by Jake Smallwood. Smallwood was at third with no outs but was left stranded. The Pit Spitters were 0-8 with five strikeouts with runners in scoring position.
Kalamazoo answered in the bottom half with a three-run homer. Later in the third, Colin Summerhill launched his first homer of the year, a solo shot to tie the game at 3-3.
The Growlers scored a pair in the bottom of the third and never relinquished the lead. They added four runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
The Pit Spitters bullpen struggled again in the loss. Four relievers combined for six walks, three hit batters and seven earned runs. They managed just one strikeout in the loss.
