Mallards Look to Finish Road Trip with Sweep
July 22, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Battle Creek, MI - July 22, 2012. The Madison Mallards (12-4, 28-23) will finish their three game road series and go for the sweep of the Battle Creek Bombers (5-11, 19-32) tonight at C.O. Brown Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 pm CT.
On Saturday the Mallards used a strong performance on the mound by reliever Danny Sullivan (Madison College), who struck out nine in 3.0 innings, to comeback for a 4-2 win over the Bombers. On offense a key solo home run in the seventh inning by left fielder Derek Fisher (Virginia) gave the Mallards a lead that they would never relinquish.
Left-hander Daniel Gibson (Florida) will make his fourth start of the season tonight for the Mallards. In his last outing Gibson (2-2) gave up four runs on six hits through 7.0 innings during the Mallards 5-4 win over the Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-10, 28-23) on July 16th.
Making his third start against the Mallards, and ninth overall this season for the Bombers, is right-hander Casey Mulholland (Ole Miss). In his last start Mulholland (0-2) had his longest start of the season, throw 6.0 innings in which he surrendered three runs while striking out a season high five hitters.
Mr. Consistent:
While picking up his ninth save of the season in last night' s win, Mallards reliever John Hamilton (UNC-Charlotte) continued his remarkable streak of registering at least one strike out in nine consecutive appearances. The last time the lefty did not fan at least one hitter was on June 17th.
Iron Men:
Tonight's matchup features two of the three most durable players in the Northwoods League. Mallards right fielder Tyler Marincov (North Florida) and Bombers center fielder Daniel Rockett (Texas-San Antonio) are tied with Wisconsin Rapids third baseman Brandon Hohl (Illinois) for the league lead in games played with 51.
Up Next:
The Mallards return to action at the "Duck Pond" on Friday, July 27th against the Rafters. That night will be Presidential Bobble Election Night at the ballpark.
The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
