La Crosse, WI - August 3, 2014. After falling to the La Crosse Loggers (10-20, 31-34) last night by a score of 6-1, the Madison Mallards (15-17, 33-32) look to bounce back against the Loggers tonight at 5:05 pm.

Mallards starter Nate Hoffmann (Madison College) looks for his second win in as many starts after tossing 5.1 innings against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on July 28th, allowing one run on six hits. The righty has been consistent out of the bullpen for the Mallards, holding a 5.53 ERA in 16 appearances.

He is scheduled to square off against Logger starter Kevin Roy (Columbia). Roy is 3-1 on the year with a 4.12 ERA, and in his last start he went six complete innings, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out eight in a 6-3 loss to the Willmar Stingers.

Last night, Mallards right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) homered in the eighth inning to record the Mallards sole run.

Loggers starter Ty Provencher (Long Beach State) earned the win after pitching seven shutout innings, giving up two hits while striking out four.

The Loggers scored two runs in the first inning off Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) and four more in the seventh. First baseman Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) led the Loggers offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Buffett went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out one in the loss.

The Mallards are now eight games back of the first place Lakeshore Chinooks in the South Division second half standings, which means they are eliminated from winning the second half with seven games left to play. Overall they are five games back of the second place Wisconsin Woodchucks.

For the Mallards to make the playoffs, they must finish second in the overall standings as long as Lakeshore holds their second half lead.

The Mallards return to the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to face the Alexandria Blue Anchors at 7:05 pm. Monday will feature a Charter Communications Trading Card Giveaway as well as a Curdfest Preview. Taste the best curds in Wisconsin as a preview to the real Curdfest on August 24th!

Mallards single game tickets are on-sale now. To purchase tickets, log on to MallardsBaseball.com, call 608-246-4277, or stop by the Mallards ticket office.
