Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (October 29, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed goaltender Justin Grant to a five game contract, have placed left wing Phil Axtell on the ten day injured reserve list with a broken nose and have activated center Mark Ehl.

With newly signed veteran goaltender Adam Russo not expected to arrive in time for tonight's game between the Mallards and Fort Wayne Komets at the i wireless Center, Grant has joined the Flock on a short term basis. The 29-year old Grant, a native of Burlington, Iowa, is expected to dress as a backup to David Brown this evening. Grant played briefly in the All American Hockey League last season with the Madison Ice Muskies and two years ago for the Evansville IceMen.

Axtell played in each of the Mallards' first four games before being sidelined. Ehl missed three games with a thigh injury after making his professional debut in the Mallards' season opener October 16 against Odessa.

Tonight's game between the Mallards and Komets faces off at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans ages 13 and over through the doors for this evening's contest will receive free Mallards t-shirts courtesy of WLLR and Fox 18.
