Mallards Drop Fort Wayne 4-2

Zac Pearson scored twice and added one assist and David Brown made 35 saves as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 Friday night.

Pearson opened the scoring in the first period and capped off the win with an empty net goal in the final minute of the third period.

The Mallards were shorthanded when Pearson scored from the high slot at 14:03 of the first.

The power play units would take center stage in the second period.

Quad City scored twice on the man advantage in the second and the Komets converted once while up a man in the middle frame.

Tyler Kindle's long range drive widened the Mallard lead to 2-0 at 3:12 of the second.

Mathieu Curadeau picked the top corner to bring Fort Wayne back within one at 11:02, but Ryan Palmer's blue line blast stretched the gap back to a pair with just 44 seconds left in the second.

The Komets again battled back within one when Leo Thomas pounced on a rebound at 2:54 of the third period, but Brown and his teammates would hold off Fort Wayne until Pearson provided the clinching empty netter with just 15 seconds remaining.

The Mallards will team with Genesis Health System and Cumulus Media to support breast cancer awareness with "Pink in the Rink Night" when the Mallards take on the Bloomington PrairieThunder next Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center.

$2 from every ticket sold for Pink in the Rink Night will be donated to the Geneses Health Services Foundation.

The Mallards will wear special pink jerseys during the November 6 game; the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation.

In addition, the first 1,000 adult female fans through the door will receive free pink caps.
