
Mallards, Hoffmann Quiet Growlers in Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, MI - Mallards starter Nate Hoffmann (Madison College) tallied five strikeouts and right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) hit a two run jack in the third inning to lead the Madison Mallards (20-18, 37-33) past the Kalamazoo Growlers (16-20, 29-42) tonight in by a score of 5-1.
Hoffmann was steady in his third start, allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work to earn his third win of the season.
Marabell added an RBI single in the ninth to finish 3-for-5 with three RBI. Also aiding in the win was third baseman Trent Higginbothem (North Florida), who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Growlers starter Ryan Colegate (Ohio Dominican) was tabbed with the loss after giving up three runs over 6.1 innings.
The Mallards end their 2014 Northwoods League season tomorrow against the Growlers at 4:05 pm (CT).
