Wisconsin Rapids, WI - Eleven hits, five walks, and three errors helped the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters take down the Green Bay Bullfrogs by a final score of 10-1. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters closed out their 2014 season at Witter Field with a total team effort over the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Eight of the nine Rafter starters all had RBIs.
A Dean Long (Emporia State) leadoff homerun put the Bullfrogs on the board early 1-0. The lone run in the ballgame was the fourth homerun of the season for Long, who finished the game 2-3.
The Rafters tied the ballgame at one in the third when Keelin Rasch (Lousiana Monroe) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Shawn Hagarty (Lindenwood). Wisconsin Rapids later scored two more runs in the third on a Michael Jurgella (St. Cloud State) RBI groundout and a passed ball.
Wisconsin Rapids tacked on two more runs in sixth, and then erupted for five more runs in the seventh inning. Tyler Servais (Princeton) played a big role in the seventh for Wisconsin Rapids singling home Jurgella before scoring himself on a Kirby McGuire (New Mexico) sacrifice fly. Servais and McGuire both finished the game with an RBI and a run scored.
Offensively for the Bullfrogs Nico Zych (UT-Martin) had two hits, while swiping his second bag of the season.
Bullfrog starter Mike Ellenbest (Saginaw Valley State) was charged with his fourth loss of the season. Allowing five runs over five and one third innings pitched, Ellenbest will finish the season with a 4-4 record and 4.90 ERA. In relief of Ellenbest, Luke Watson (UW-Stevens Point) allowed five runs in just two thirds of an inning pitched. Jake Stolley (Northwestern) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for Green Bay, striking out one batter.
Picking up his first win of the season was Connor McClain (Central Arkansas). McClain went six innings, his longest outing of the season, allowing just one run while striking out six batters.
The Bullfrogs final game of the 2014 Northwoods League season will be Sunday, August 10th, in Green Bay against the Rafters. First pitch from Joannes Stadium is scheduled for 5:05pm.
