Jason Tapp made 43 regulation saves to earn his first shutout of the year in a 1-0 shootout victory over Elmira on Friday night at The First Arena. The win marked the 100th victory of Tapp's professional career. Elmira's Dave Lemanowicz also received credit for a shutout after making 38 saves in the shootout loss. Lemanowicz stopped the first 11 shots of the game as Quad City dominated play in the early going. The Jackals battled back to take 19 of the final 22 shots in the first period. In the second, the Jackals' best chances came shorthanded as Tapp stopped three odd-man rushes with the Mallards on the power-play. After two periods, the netminders combined for 59 saves as Tapp stopped 34 shots through 40 minutes while Lemanowicz turned aside 25 Mallards shots. Quad City controlled play in the third while outshooting the Jackals 13-9, but neither squad could register the game's first goal. In the shootout, the Jackals finally broke through as Scott Wray scored in the bottom of the second round to give his team a 1-0 edge. The next three Mallards shooters (Patrick Nadeau, Don Parsons and Chad Woollard) scored while Tapp stoned two consecutive Jackals to earn the win.
Saturday, January 20th - Quad City 3 at Elmira 4 Shootout
The Mallards gained a regulation point in a 4-3 shootout loss in Elmira on Saturday night. The Jackals stormed back with three unanswered goals just past the midway point of the middle period. Frank Littlejohn scored during a 5-on-3 power-play to begin the comeback. Littlejohn's tally was followed by two more Elmira markers as Eric Lind and Brent Cullaton scored within 2:49 of the Jackals first tally. In the third period, Luke Stauffacher tied the game with a power-play goal following a give-and-go with Justin Chwedoruk. The goal stood up as the only tally of the closing frame and forced the third shootout in three meetings with the Jackals. The first five frames of the shootout ended with the teams tied at three, both goaltenders locked in during the sudden death rounds before Dave Morelli scored for Elmira to break the tie in the bottom of the eighth round.
