Friday, Jan. 19 Port Huron 4 @ Flint 7

Flint scored 2 in a row before Ryan Markham netted a shorthanded goal. Mike Olynyk's power play tally leveled the score. Flint dropped two more, but Bobby Kukulka cut the deficit to one on a power play. The Generals found the net three straight times to seal the victory, although Greg Bullock recorded the fourth marker of the night shorthanded.

Saturday, Jan. 20 Kalamazoo 4 @ Port Huron 1

Kalamazoo's goal in the first period was the only point in the first two frames of the game. Noah Ruden left the game with an injury, giving emergency back-up Paul Soli netminding duties for the majority of the game. Greg Bullock tied it up in the third, but three late markers from the Wings secured the victory for the visitors.

Port Huron's captain and leading scorer made critical plays in both games. His goal against the Generals on Friday was an unassisted shorthander, late in the third. In Saturday's contest, he scored the only goal of the night for the Flags, tying the game in the third.

Paul saw his first professional ice time this weekend when injuries sidelined Noah Ruden. He gave a solid effort on Saturday night, keeping the K-Wings scoreless until the final five minutes of the match, earning the 1st Star of the Game award.

Team Notes

- Ryan Markham recorded his firth shorthanded goal of the season on Friday tying Todd Robinson and Frank Littlejohn for the most in the league.

- Paul Soli made his professional debut over the weekend, blocking 21 shots in two and a half periods from the high-powered offense of the league's defending champs.

- The Flags have lost just one game at home when the score was tied at the end of the second period.

- Saturday's loss to Kalamazoo put the team on a five-game losing skid, their second of the season.

- Port Huron's last road victory came a month ago, on Dec. 23 in Kalamazoo

The Flags are searching for ways to snap their losing streak, amidst multiple injuries in the defense. Starting goalie Dustin Traylen is questionable for the weekend, from a leg fracture incurred during the New Year's Eve game against the Elmira Jackals. Despite outshooting the Generals 35-27 last Friday, the Flags were unable to come up with the win and will look to avenge the loss this coming Friday. Quad City comes to McMorran on Saturday, where they have never beaten the Flags this season.
