
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Rockford IceHogs center Preston Mizzi has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Fort Wayne Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 21st, 2007.
Mizzi completed the week with seven points (4g, 3a) and a plus-4 rating in three games played. On Friday, he scored the lone Rockford goal in the 2-1 shootout loss to Muskegon. He tallied three points (1g, 2a) in the 8-2 win vs. Chicago on Saturday. Mizzi ended the week with three points (2g, 1a) in the 7-3 win over Bloomington on Sunday. The 26-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is currently riding a four-game goal scoring streak. He currently ranks third on his club in scoring with 31 points (14g, 17a) in 33 games played this season.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Chicago forward Tim Plett, Elmira right wing Brent Cullaton, Flint left wing Bobby Reynolds, Fort Wayne center J.C. Ruid, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Muskegon right wing Adam Smyth, Port Huron center Greg Bullock, and Quad City forward Don Parsons.
St. Pierre finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA), and a .957 save percentage (SPCT). He made 21 saves in the 4-1 win vs. Kalamazoo on Friday. The following night he made 23 saves in the 6-1 win vs. Bloomington. The 31-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Quebec is unbeaten in regulation over his past four starts (3-0-1). The 2007 UHL All-Star currently leads all league goaltenders in minutes played (2067:23). He also ranks second in wins (22), GAA (2.23), and SPCT (.927). It is his fourth weekly honor this season.
