
Mallards Enter Final Week in Final Playoff Spot

Moline, IL â The Mallards went 1-2-1 last week to fall to 36-29-11 on the season. The team's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four as the final week of the regular season begins. Last Wednesday, the Mallards kicked off the week with a 1-0 loss to Rockford. On Friday, the Mallards traveled to Kansas City where they won 5-2 in their series finale with the Outlaws. The team went 0-1-1 in a weekend pair with the Kalamazoo Wings.
As the final week begins, the Mallards are five points ahead of Flint for the final spot in the UHL Playoffs. Missouri is three points up on the Mallards for the seventh seed. The Mallards hold a game in hand over Missouri.
This week, the Mallards host Rockford on Wednesday to close out the season series with the Hogs. On Friday, the team is in Flint for the final road game of the season. Quad City returns home for a Saturday game vs. Fort Wayne and a Sunday contest with Flint.
Upcoming Promotions
· Saturday, April 9th vs. the Fort Wayne Komets-Hall of Fame Night/Frank Pellico-7:00 p.m.-The Mallards induct the inaugural class of the Mallards Hall of Fame on April 9th. Paul MacLean and Hugo Proulx will be the inaugural inductees. Frank Pellico will also be in attendance to entertain fans with his organ music. Pellico has been the organist for the Chicago Blackhawks since the Chicago Stadium area. Saturday marks his fourth appearance in the Quad Cities this season.
· Sunday, April 10th vs. the Flint Generals-Family Fun Day Sunday/Poster Giveaway-3:00 p.m.
The Mallards close out the regular season with a match-up vs. the Flint Generals. Posters will be given to children in attendance courtesy of KWQC, Maid-Rite and Reynolds Ford. A Video Games Etc. Hockey Tournament will be held at The MARK prior to the game. The Championship Final will be held on the big screen at The MARK during an intermission. A pre-game skate is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. During the intermission, Deere Harvester Credit Union presents Dash for Cash.

The Mallards and Hogs meet for the last time this season on Wednesday at The MARK. The Hogs shutout the Mallards 1-0 last week in Quad City.

The Mallards conclude their road schedule with a showdown vs. the Flint Generals. The game is extremely important to the Mallards playoff fortunes as they begin the week leading Flint by points for the final playoff spot. The team is 3-0-2 vs. the Generals this year.
· Saturday, April 9th vs. the Fort Wayne Komets-7:00 p.m.
The Mallards and Komets meet for the seventh and final time on Saturday in a possible playoff preview. The Komets are battling for the Western Division title as they enter the week two points up on Rockford with a game in hand on the Hogs.
· Sunday, April 10th vs. the Flint Generals-3:00 p.m.
The rivalry with the Generals reaches its 2004-05 climax on Sunday at The MARK. One of the two rivals will not be participating in the 2005 post-season as Missouri has clinched a playoff spot.

Tonight, the Mallards are back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge for Duck Talk beginning at 7 p.m. This week's guests are Patrick Nadeau, Troy Smith and Donny Grover along with coach Paul Gillis. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

The Mallards came up on the short end of a hard-fought 1-0 contest against the Western Division-leading Rockford IceHogs Wednesday night at The MARK. The loss snapped a four-game Mallards win streak. The setback also marks just the fourth time this season the Mallards have been held scoreless. After a scoreless first period, Rockford's Jason Ralph took advantage of a screen in front of the Quad City net and managed to sneak a shot past Mallards netminder Robert Gherson. Alex Kim and former Mallard, J.F. Dufour earned the assists on the goal. Michel Robinson and Gherson combined to stop 46 of 47 shots. Robinson made 27 saves in earning his seventh shutout of the year. Gherson was a tough-luck loser following a 19 save performance.
Friday, April 1st-Quad City 5 at Kansas City 2
The Mallards overcame an early 1-0 deficit to beat Kansas City in the series finale for the 2004-05 season. After Jimmy Callahan's goal at 4:44 of the first, the Mallards stormed back to record five unanswered goals. Marty Standish evened the game at 10:57 of the first period with his 14th goal of the season. Patrick Nadeau and Jason Lehoux scored on the power play before the first period expired to give Quad City a 3-1 lead. In the second, Jason Deskins scored to extend the lead to 4-1. Frantisek Skladany recorded the fifth Mallards goal just 56 seconds into the third period. George Davis added a late goal for the Outlaws to set the final at 5-2. The Mallards closed out their season series vs. Kansas City with a 10-2-0 record.
Saturday, April 2nd-Kalamazoo 4 at Quad City 3-Shootout
The Mallards never trailed in regulation but lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Wings on Saturday at The MARK. Donny Grover opened the scoring with his first professional goal at the 2:04 mark of the opening period. Kalamazoo answered 2:17 later when Jason Deitsch tipped a Josh Elzinga point shot past Robert Gherson to even the game at one. Quad City reclaimed the lead on a Jamie Thompson power-play goal at 11:07 of the opening period. The Mallards stretched their lead to 3-1 when Jason Deskins scored at the 5:12 mark of the second period. The Wings came back on the strength of two four-on-four goals. Kory Karlander scored in the second period to cut the Mallards lead to 3-2. Dan Price evened the game with the only marker of the third period at the 16:19 mark. In the shootout, Kalamazoo's Chad Alban stopped all four Mallards shooters he faced while Shaun Fisher and Dan Price tallied for the Wings. With the win, the Wings extend the UHL's longest active winning streak at nine games.
Sunday, April 3rd-Kalamazoo 4 at Quad City 2
The Mallards lost 4-2 to the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday at The MARK. A.J. MacLean opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the year just 20 seconds into the game. Andy Fermoyle drew the lone assist on MacLean's goal. In the second period, the Wings evened the score when Andrew Luciuk scored at even strength. The Wings took the lead for the first time at the 1:57 mark of the third period when former Mallard Kevin Kerr scored a power-play goal. Marty Standish answered Kerr's goal with his 15th of the year at the 10:47 mark of the third. Mike Kompon and Jason Deskins earned helpers on the Standish tally. Kerr scored his second of the evening just three minutes after Standish's goal. Kerr's goal stood up as the game-winner. The Wings' Sean Starke scored into an empty net with 50 seconds left to seal the victory.
Player of the Week-Jason Deskins is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Deskins recorded seven points (two goals and five assists) in four games this week including a pair of three-point performances. On Friday, Deskins had a goal and two assists in Kansas City. He followed that up with a goal and two helpers on Saturday vs. Kalamazoo at The MARK.
Goaltender of the Week-Robert Gherson is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. The rookie went 1-1-1 this week with a 2.02 goals against average and a .934 save percentage.
