Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.---The reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the Central Division and overall league-leading Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have announced today a pair of league-wide honors for two of the Fury's all-star standouts.
The Fury left wing BRANT BLACKNED has been named SHER-WOOD / UHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH for March and SYLVAIN DAIGLE has been acclaimed with the distinction of SOUTHERN SPORTS SUPPLY / UHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the week of March 28th through April 3rd.
In his 10th pro season and his fourth with the Fury, BLACKNED, 30, has been both integral and instrumental in his team's meteoric rise to the top of the circuit's summit, bringing Muskegon to within one more victory of the fran-chise second Tarry Cup Regular Season Championship and their first since the 1998-99 campaign. Hailing from Weminji, PQ, the 6-0, 220lb Fury forward has spurred a Fury team which has already set new club records for points, (109) and home wins (30) in a single season, while equaling the Fury standard for most overall wins, (50).
With Muskegon posting a dynamic record of 14(10-3-1) in March, Blackned emerged as the Fury's scoring kingpin, registering a prolific 22-points in just 12-games on 11-goals, 11-assists with 45-SOG and a +5 rating. Included in his March output, were 3-PPG, 2-GWG, four 2-goal games and 5-multiple point games. His prodigious 6-points' perfor-mance, (2-4-6), March 26th in a Fury 10-2 triumph at Richmond equaled this season's best single game individual output by any player.
There were even more significant accomplishments for "The Big Bear Barrage" in March. He engineered a 7-game point-scoring streak on the road, totaling 15-points in that span, and also, he became the Fury's second all-time lead-ing goal-scoring architect behind Robin Bouchard when he closed the month with 140-Muskegon strikes. For the season, Blackned is currently in a 3-way tie with teammates Bouchard (41-52-93) and Jeff Nelson (23-70-93) for 4th place in the UHL scoring derby with 71(33-60-93). His 43-PP/Points rank as second most in the league.
DAIGLE, 28, enjoyed another extraordinary undefeated week in the puck-detouring department in the Fury cage. The 9-year pro from Ste. Hyacinthe, PQ posted a record of 3(2-0-1) in 3-games, surrendering a scant 5-GA for a GAA of 1.67 and a SPCT of .944. In two of the three games he was named either the #1 or #2 Star of the game. The UHL Colonial Cup III MVP has been virtually inviolable in his last 19-decisions, posting a mark of 19(17-1-1) while yielding only 34-GA for a GAA of a thrifty and nifty 1.79 and a SPCT of .942.
For the season, Daigle is ranked as the UHL's top goaltender with a GAA of 2.01, the best winning record in the league at 26(20-5-1) .789 and the best SPCT at .932. His latest personal unbeaten streak has progressed to 5-in succession; 5(4-0-1) with a GAA of 2.00. Despite his late arrival back to Muskegon on January 14th, Daigle has been brilliant. This is his third UHL Goaltender of the Week award coupled with being hailed UHL Goaltender of the Month for February.
The Blackned monthly honors represent the second time that a Fury player has been accorded such acclaim. Back in January, Robin Bouchard was also named UHL Player of the Month. Blackned becomes the third Fury player to earn UHL Player of the Week laurels, having been preceded by Bouchard for the week of January 3rd â 9th and Jason Lawmaster for the week of March 7th â 13th.
