Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL â The Mallards got a pair of second period goals and held on to defeat Kalamazoo 3-2 on Sunday. Quad City got superb goaltending by Jeff Reynaert down the stretch, as he made 18 third period saves, as the Mallards won their eighth consecutive game. The Mallards will try to run their streak to nine when they play host to Missouri on Wednesday night.
Lanny Gare got the game-winning goal for Quad City in the waning seconds of the second period. Gare took the puck up the right side from his own end to start a three-on-one break, then ripped a wrister through the five hole of Chancy Colquhoun (21 saves) for his 18th of the season with just 9.2 seconds remaining in the period.
The Mallards got their first lead of the game on a give-and-go play between veterans Jeff Williams and Hugo Proulx. Williams passed the puck to Proulx behind the net, then cut to the center slot and one-timed a puck into the net for his 45th of the year at the 7:20 mark of the middle frame.
Kalamazoo came on strong in the third period, and trimmed the lead to one with just over five minutes to play. During four-on-four action, Andrew Luciuk circled the net and wristed a shot high to the glove side past Reynaert (30 saves). Guy Dupuis and Dan Watson tallied assists on the goal.
Each team got a goal in the first, with the Wings striking first blood just over a minute into the game. Joe Ritson got a power play goal at the 1:19 mark for his 16th tally of the year. Mike Thompson added a five-on-three power play goal midway through the period, with Jason Goulet and Jeff Williams assisting on the score.
The Mallards win the season series against Kalamazoo (5-4-0) with the two wins over the Wings this week. The Mallards remain two points behind Fort Wayne (104 pts.) and three ahead of Muskegon (99).
