
Generals cook 'Hogs, 7-2

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League scored four unanswered goals in the third period to put away the Rockford Icehogs 7-2 before a crowd of 2,510 at Perani's Hockey World Arena & Event Center on Sunday afternoon.
Flint opened the scoring in the first period on the first of two goals by left wing Frank DeFrenza (10) at 7:01 for a 1-0 lead. The Icehogs tied it as center Steve Cygan (24) scored his first of two goals at 8:30 of the first period. Flint regained the lead as center Colin Embley (25) connected on the power play at 10:45 for a 2-1 lead.
In the second period, Generals' right wing Kevin Kerr (18) scored his first of two goals at :13 for a 2-1 lead. The Icehogs continued to work as Cygan (25) scored his second of the game at 11:15 as the Generals held a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
A four-goal outburst put the game on ice for the Generals. Defenseman Sylvain Dufresne (15) rifled a shot past Icehogs' goaltender Paul Schonfelder at 5:32 for a 4-2 lead. Flint scored three goals in the last five minutes of the contest. Right Wing Pascal Morency (8) at 15:47, Frank DeFrenza (11) with his second of the game at 16:10 and Kevin Kerr (19) his second goal of the game on the power play at 19:32.
Captain Jim Duhart chipped in with three assists. Playing Assistant Coach, Bobby Reynolds had two assists, Dufresne had a three-point night with one goal and two assists. Kevin Kerr continues his quest to establish a new professional hockey record (excluding the N.H.L.) for most career goals. Kerr now has 659 goals and is only four goals by tying the record established by former IHL-er Scott Gruhl (663). Goaltender Jonathan Forest stopped 22 of 24 shots for his second consecutive victory.
Flint (37-26-9, 83 pts.) is in third place in the Eastern Conference of the United Hockey League, three points ahead of third place Port Huron. Rockford (28-40-5, 61 pts.) is in fifth place in the Western Conference.
