Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.-Just ten minutes before the Rockford IceHogs and the Kalamazoo Wings were set to take the ice for warm-ups at the Rockford MetroCentre, the entire arena was plunged into total darkness when a still unidentified power failure occurred. The game was then delayed for two hours while MetroCentre authorities and ComEd employees worked to restore power shortly after 8:00 p.m. After a quick check of the playing surface by referee Jack McCoy, both team skated out for warm-ups at 8:30.

Unfortunately the Hogs never really found their way out of the dark, as they fell to the Wings by a score of 6-1. Kalamazoo tallied the first and only goal of the opening period at 15:08 when Faron Duthie tipped in a Joe Ritson crossing pass. Kalamazoo then added two goals in the second, the first at 7:19 from Pat O ‚¬â„¢Leary. Kalamazoo then struck again while shorthaned at 16:51 off a defensive breakdown by the Hogs.

Tim Turner increased the Wings lead to 4-0 at 9:37 of the third. But Rockford then broke into the scoring column when Maris Ziedins roofed a rebound on the backhand while the Hogs skated on the power play at 10:49. But the Wings came right back with a pair of goals from Mark Major at 12:50 and 14:26 to stay out of reach for the Hogs.

Goaltender Ronnie Vogel made 27 saves for the Hogs, while Chancy Colquhoun, former college teammate of Ziedins, made 26 saves. Dave Paradise extended his point streak to a season high 10 games with an assist.

Next Home Game: Friday, April 9 vs. Fort Wayne Komets at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs close out the 2003-04 campaign against the defending champion Komets at the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 1,000 kids 12 & under will receive a special on-of-a-kind kid ‚¬â„¢s jersey courtesy of Organ Tissue Donors, Fox 39, and WXRX, 104.9 FM.
