Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - On the heels of a key 3-2 victory fueled by quality pitching and Cameron Frost's (Washington State) fifth home run of the summer, the Madison Mallards (14-10, 34-25) will aim for a series sweep of the Kalamzaoo Growlers (6-17, 14-45) Tuesday evening at Homer Stryker Field. Tonight's 6:05 p.m. CT contest will mark Madison's fourth consecutive amid a seven-day, six-game road swing through South Division competition heading into the stretch run of the season. Play-by-play coverage will be provided by 100.5 FM ESPN Madison beginning at 5:45 p.m. CT.
Spencer Goebel (Spring Arbor Univ.) tonight will receive his first appearance of the summer for the Mallards starting rotation. Goebel, a 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher from Belmont, Mich., made his debut with Madison on July 23 against the La Crosse Loggers, tabbing a perfect inning of middle relief with one strikeout in a 5-4 Mallards victory. The senior-to-be went 5-5 with a 3.26 ERA and 55 strikeouts across 66.1 innings collegiately this past spring, holding opponents to a .201 batting average and tabbing two complete game shutouts with only two home runs allowed in that span.
Field manager Donnie Scott and the Mallards will make their return to the Duck Pond this coming Saturday, August 1 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-11, 22-34). This Saturday's matchup will feature The Diamond Center Diamond Dig post-game, ice-cream scoop giveaway for fans in attendance as well as a free Kids Clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Warner Park field, presented in part by Zimbrick-Honda. For tickets to the game or inquiries regarding Saturday's Kids Clinic, call the Mallards Ticket Office at 608-246-4277 or visit www.MallardsBaseball.com for more information.
