The Duluth Huskies (14-10) split their series with the Rochester Honkers with an 8-1 victory.
Ryan Tapani started the game for the Huskies pitching 6.0 solid innings allowing just 2 hits with 1 run while recording 6 strikeouts. The Huskies got the scoring started in the 3rd inning when Holden Cammack started off the inning with a single. He advanced to third after two wild pitches and later scored after shortstop Terrin Varra grounded out on a fielder's choice.
The Huskies added two more runs in the 4th after second baseman Jimmy Heck reached first on a single. First baseman Alex Wojciechowski followed with a single and third baseman Elliot Barzilli followed with a double scoring Heck. Wojciechowski later scored off of a single from designated hitter TJ Martin's single.
The Huskies added two more runs in the 5th when center fielder Cal Stevenson reached first base on a walk and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. He later scored off of a single from right fielder Colton Waltner. Waltner later scored off a double from Jimmy Heck.
The Huskies added three more runs in the 7th to put the game away after Terrin Varra led off with a single. He later scored off of a single from Cal Stevenson. Waltner followed with another single. Waltner and Stevenson both advanced on a wild pitch and Wojciechowski scored Stevenson on a single. Waltner later scored on an error by the center fielder.
Jimmy Heck and Colton Waltner both had big days for the Huskies as they both went
2 for 4 with an RBI. First baseman Dempsey Grover hit a homerun giving the Honkers their only run of the game. Ryan Tapani got the win for the Huskies while Alex Evans got the loss for the Honkers.
The Huskies are back at Wade on Thursday to begin their final home series of the season against the Mankato Moondogs at 6:35 pm.
