Madison - The Madison Mallards used four home runs and a phenomenal pitching performance by Matt LaMothe to shut out the Wisconsin Woodchucks 10-0 and earn a split of the two-game series. After Brendon Hayden of the Woodchucks and Matt LaMothe of the Mallards traded zeroes through the first two-and-a-half innings, the Mallards broke out against Hayden in the third. The inning was highlighted by two home runs, a three-run homer by Jeff Zimmerman and a two-run home run by Jack Livingston. Hayden left the ball game, allowing seven earned runs in three innings and picking up his first loss of the season. The Mallards would keep the power surge going off of Josh Merrill in his Woodchucks debut. With Tyler Marincov on first and two outs, Mike Reuvekamp took Merrill deep over the left field wall, giving the Mallards a 9-0 lead.Matt LaMothe, the starter for the Mallards, was outstanding in his seven innings of work. LaMothe allowed no earned runs on four hits, no walks, and six strikeouts on his way to his fourth victory of the season. The Mallards would tack on one more on a solo home run by Ryan Bush in his first at bat as a Mallard. The home run was Madison's fourth of the ball game, coming off of Brooks Braga in the eighth. That would make the score 10-0, and the Woodchucks did not score in the tenth, finalizing the shutout for the Mallards. The Woodchucks will be back at home tomorrow to face the Eau Claire Express at 6:35 at Athletic Park.
