Mallards Begin Busiest Week of Season on Tuesday

Moline, IL-The Mallards roll into their busiest week of the season on a six-game unbeaten streak (3-0-3). This week, the team hosts Chicago on Tuesday and Rockford on Wednesday before heading to the Windy City for a Friday nigh showdown with the Hounds. On Saturday night, the team returns to the Quad Cities to face the Flint Generals on Genesis Jersey Auction Night. The year's busiest week concludes on Sunday as the team hosts Chicago.

Last week, the Mallards suffered shootout losses to Fort Wayne and Port Huron before beating the Flags in a rematch on Saturday. Quad City hasn't lost in regulation since February 25th and is unbeaten since acquiring Dale Lupul, Derek Miller and Brad Smith just before the UHL trade deadline. The Mallards haven't lost on home ice since January 26th. The team is unbeaten in their last 11 on home ice (9-0-2). Quad City is tied with Rockford for the longest home ice unbeaten streak in the UHL this year.

The game originally scheduled for February 24th vs. Chicago will be played on Tuesday night at The MARK. Tickets for the February 24th game will be good for admission to Tuesday's game.

The Mallards Annual Jersey Auction Night presented by Genesis is this week! Game time for the Jersey Auction Game has been moved up to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate the post-game festivities. This season's Jersey Auction will fall on St. Patrick's Day and will feature a St. Patrick Nadeau Bobblehead Giveaway from Casino Rock Island.

Alcoa School Day

Sunday, March 18th vs. Chicago 3:00 p.m.

The Mallards host Chicago for the final time this year on Sunday afternoon. The first 2,000 fans will receive the fourth installment of the Mallards team trading card set. It's also Alcoa School Day as Alcoa and the Mallards honor National Reading Month. Face painters, magicians and caricature artists will be at the game to entertain fans courtesy of Alcoa. After the game, the Mallards will be appearing and Portabella's for a post-game party. Several team members will also stay at The MARK for a post-game skate with fans.

The Hounds visit The MARK for a make-up game that was originally scheduled for February 24th. It's the seventh meeting of the year between the two teams with the Hounds capturing four of the first six games.

Wednesday, March 14th vs. Rockford 7:00 p.m. at The MARK

The Hogs make their final appearance at The MARK for the 2006-07 regular season on Wednesday night. The last four meetings between the two teams have been settled by one goal including two shootouts.

Friday, March 16th at Chicago 7:30 p.m. in Chicago

The Mallards journey to Chicago for the second of three meetings this week with the Hounds. The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show airs on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230 beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Friday.

Saturday, March 17th vs. Flint 5:00 p.m. at The MARK

The Mallards host Flint for the final time this season on Saturday night. Quad City is 4-0-0 vs. Flint, and the Mallards have outscored the Generals 29-16.

Sunday, March 18th vs. Chicago 3:00 p.m. at The MARK

The Hounds are at The MARK again to wrap up the Mallards busiest week of 2006-07. It marks the Hounds' final visit of the season.

Duck Talk on the Air

Duck Talk is back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge tonight. Forwards Chad Woollard and Sean Starke and defenseman Mathieu Wathier join host Aaron Roof and Mallards Head Coach Brian Curran. The show begins at 6:00 p.m. at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Wednesday, March 7th - Quad City 1 at Fort Wayne 2 Shootout

The Mallards suffered a 2-1 shootout loss on Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. Jason Tapp was spectacular for Quad City in the game making 42 saves in regulation. It marked just the second time under Head Coach Brian Curran that the Mallards failed to win when holding a lead after two periods. Quad City is now 45-0-2 under Curran when leading after two periods. Mallards forward Luke Stauffacher netted the lone goal of the first 40 minutes when he scored with 15:18 gone in the opening period. Stauffacher forced a turnover on right wing inside the Komets zone and sent a shot into the Fort Wayne net to gain a 1-0 advantage for the Mallards. After a scoreless second period, the Komets evened the scored with a Mario Larocque goal at 11:55 of the closing frame. Larocque scored after a tic-tac-toe passing sequence with Bruce Richardson and Daniel Goneau. In the shootout, J.C. Ruid scored for Fort Wayne in the second frame before Dale Lupul evened the score with his third shootout goal as a Mallard. Bruce Richardson won the game for the Komets with a shootout tally in the bottom of the fifth round.

Friday, March 9th - Port Huron 4 at Quad City 3 Shootout

The Mallards and Flags swapped third period comebacks on Friday before Port Huron earned a 4-3 shootout win over Quad City to retain possession of a one point lead for the final playoff position. Sergei Durdin was the temporary hero for the Mallards as he netted his eighth goal of the season with 22.7 seconds left to force the shootout. In the first period, Port Huron's Mike Olynyk scored the only goal of the period. It marked Olynyk's 13th of the year as he has more than doubled his career total (11) during his fourth season of pro hockey. The Mallards dominated the second period as they outshot the Flags 18-8 and carried play throughout the period. Don Parsons tied the game with his team-leading 34th goal of the year on a power play at 12:02 of the period. Chad Woollard earned an assist on the Parsons tally to establish a new career high for helpers in a season. Woollard would go on to score his 26th tally of the year to put the Mallards in front at 2-1. In the third period, Port Huron's Colt King and Ben Gustavson scored to put the Flags in front 3-2. King's marker tied the game with 4:03 elapsed in the final period. It marked the fourth consecutive game that King has scored a goal. Gustavson gave the Flags the lead with his second tally of the year at 12:10 of the final frame. In the game's final minute, Jason Tapp left the Quad City net in favor of the sixth attacker and the Mallards converted on the advantage. Sergei Durdin scored his eighth goal of the year after scooping up a Brett Pilkington rebound and beating Port Huron's Dustin Traylen to tie the game at three. In the shooutout, Traylen stopped all four Mallards he faced while Mark Cadotte and Ben Gustavson scored for Port Huron to earn the Flags a 4-3 win. The defeat marked just the third time that the Mallards failed to win when leading after two periods in the two year reign of Head Coach Brian Curran. The team is 45-0-3 when leading after two periods under Curran including shootout losses in each of the last two Mallards games.

Saturday, March 10th - Port Huron 2 at Quad City 4

The Mallards remained unbeaten in their last six (3-0-3) with a hard fought 4-2 win over Port Huron on Saturday at The MARK. Quad City fell in a 2-0 hole before rallying for four consecutive goals to earn their 29th win of the season. The win also marked Brad Smith's first professional victory in net. After a scoreless first period, Ryan Markham and Steve Hildenbrand scored for Port Huron just 1:40 apart at the midway point of the second period. Momentum shifted late in the middle period when Brett Pilkington flipped a shot toward the Port Huron net that was batted in by Flag defender Chris Bogas. Pilkington's 23rd goal of the season sparked the Mallards offense. Don Parsons added his 35th tally of the year just 1:11 later on a Mallards power-play to tie the game at two after two periods. In the third, Chad Woollard scored after taking a feed from Parsons to give the Mallards the lead for the first time at 3-2. Luke Stauffacher scored an empty net goal with 27 seconds left to secure the victory. In the win, rookie Brad Smith stopped 29 shots to earn his first pro win in his MARK debut.

Player of the Week

Brett Pilkington is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He recorded five points in three games last week. After being held scoreless on Wednesday, Pilkington recorded three helpers on Friday night vs. Port Huron. On Saturday night, the rookie forwarded scored his 23rd goal of the year and added an assist.

Goalie of the Week

Brad Smith is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goalie of the Week. He stopped 29 shots in earning his first win as a Mallards on Saturday vs. Port Huron.
