Hogs' offense cools off in week 22

Judgment week came and went for the Rockford IceHogs and the jury is still out. The Hogs offense struggled as the club dropped three of its four road games heading into another four game week. Rockford's defense and goaltending had a pretty solid week, but it wasn't enough. The IceHogs do still control its own destiny for the top spot in the UHL's Western Conference with another key showdown on Saturday in Fort Wayne against the Komets.

Transactions:

-Winger Bruce Watson was activated from a 45-Day Non Roster Spot on Wednesday, March 7.

-Center Preston Mizzi was reassigned by the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) on Tuesday, March 6

-Winger Nicolas Corbeil was placed on the 10-Day Injured Reserve on Monday, March 5

Bacon Bits:

The 13 round shootout on Saturday was a club record for Rockford for longest shootout and most shootout shooters in a game.

Goalie Frederic Cloutier also set a club mark for most saves in a shootout, stopping 12 of 13 Kalamazoo attempts.

Cloutier also turned away a penalty shot against Kalamazoo on Saturday.

The IceHogs have attempted three penalty shots this season and faced two penalty shots and all five shooters failed to score.

Forwards Preston Mizzi, Bryce Cockburn and Jason Ralph became the first IceHogs players to attempt two shootout shots in one game.

Rockford has played in 10 shootouts this season and six of them have finished 2-1.

After going unbeaten in 15-straight games, Rockford has lost three of four.

In those four games, Rockford has scored only three goals in regulation.

Rockford set a club record on Friday with 108 penalty minutes against Muskegon.

The Hogs and Fury combined for a Rockford single-game record 200 PIM's.

After Rockford's game in Quad City on Wednesday, the club will play nine of its final 13 games at home.

Hot Hog Week 22:

In a week where goals were at a premium, winger Paul Brown was able to pot two of them. The Hogs winger registered Rockford's only goal in Friday's tilt in Muskegon and Sunday's contest in Fort Wayne. Brown also racked up 46 penalty minutes during the Hogs four-game week.

Upcoming Games:

Wednesday, March 14 at Quad City Mallards. The game starts at 7p.m. Rockford's final five-game road swing comes to an end with the club's last game of the regular season at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The Hogs and Mallards will meet up just one more time after Wednesday.

Friday, March 16 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is 7:30 p.m. It's a pre-St. Patrick's Day bash at the MetroCentre as the Hogs welcome the defending Colonial Cup champs. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick-up an IceHogs Stadium Cup from Bud Light and BOB FM.

Saturday, March 17 at Fort Wayne Komets. The game is slated for 6:30 p.m. The Hogs and Komets meet for the final time this season in a game with big time playoff implications. The two teams are battling for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Sunday, March 18 vs. Flint Generals. The puck drops at 3:05 p.m. Rockford and Flint meet for the final time this season. Sunday is a Dollar Days with the IceHogs, sponsored by 97ZOK. Also, don't forget your skates as the Hogs are hosting a post-game skate with the IceHogs players brought to you by CoCo Key Water Resort.

HogTalk Returns This Week At Shooter's North:

Bud Light HogTalk returns this week at Shooter's North. The show is hosted by WXRX's Jim Stone and Double T and tonight will feature IceHogs skaters Preston Mizzi and Dan Boeser. The show runs from 7-8 p.m. and also features IceHogs Head Coach Steve Martinson. Come on out and talk IceHogs hockey and take advantage of some Bud Light specials at Shooter's North.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all IceHogs Regular and Post Season games on Rockford's Voice, WNTA-AM 1330. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with the B2 Networks! Log on to the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the "click here to watch the game live" icon, and for just $6 you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer. Once again this season, ESPN"ˆRadio "The Jock" 1380 AM will broadcast 20 Hogs games during the regular season. Check your local listings for game times and dates. Also, fans with Insight Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 30 minutes before the puck drops.
