Mallards Attempt to End Skid against Chinooks

Madison Mallards News Release

After the first six games of 2016, the Mallards stood at 6-0 and led the Northwoods League in literally every offensive category. In games six and seven, however, the story has been much different. Madison has scored seven runs in those two contests, after scoring at least seven runs in each of their previous games. They'll faceoff against Lakeshore tonight in an attempt to get back to their winning ways.

Situational hitting was a large part of why the Mallards suffered two home losses to Wisconsin Rapids. Madison, a team that started off hitting .342 with runners in scoring position, left 18 men on base in the two losses. This includes once leaving the bases loaded with nobody out in their 13-5 loss on Monday.

The Mallards bullpen has also not been where the team wants it to be during this skid, as four of the six pitchers that have appeared in relief since the last win has forfeited at least two runs.

Donnie Scott will hand the ball to Mike Reitcheck (University of Pennsylvania), who will look to right the ship for this Madison team. The left-hander started last week in Rockford, where he gave up three earned runs in five innings, striking out six in the no-decision.

The Chinooks will start the Canadian-born right-hander Alex Rogers (North Dakota State), who took the loss last week after throwing 5.1 innings, giving up two runs. He couldn't get his hands on any run support, as the Chinooks fell 3-0 to Waterloo.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond Thursday, June 9th, to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks. The game will feature Juggling Josh Horton.
