Drayson Bowman had a hat trick and two assists and Dustin Tokarski stopped 33 shots in a 6-0 shutout of the Chilliwack Bruins on Friday night in the Chiefs 10th straight win. Spokane earned their 32nd win of the year and kept pace with the Tri-City Americans, who hold a six point lead over the Chiefs for first place in the U.S. Division. Spokane has three games in hand.
The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead on a Brady Calla goal, his 10th of the year and sixth in Spokane, on a re-direction of a Drayson Bowman shot at 6:38. The Chiefs outshot Chilliwack 19-8 in the first period.
At the end of the period and start of the second the Chiefs killed off a full two-minute Bruin power play, and another three minutes of five-on-four after Levko Koper was assessed an elbowing major and Mitch Wahl received a roughing minor with 13 second left in the opening period.
Trevor Glass's slap shot at 8:42, also on the power play, found its way into the back of the net to push Spokane's lead to 2-0. Bowman tallied his first of the night, a shorthanded goal, at 14:41 and Spokane had a 3-0 lead after two. The Chiefs have now scored a shorthanded goal in four straight games.
Wahl scored at 8:44 of the third and Bowman completed the hat trick, his first of the season, at 14:58.
Tokarski now has five shutouts on the season,13 for his career and now has a personal 10 game win streak.
Wahl finished the night with a goal and two assists, Stefan Ulmer and Cory Baldwin had two assists and Brady Calla added an assist with his goal.
The Chiefs will hand out Bobble Cups, presented by Coca-Cola, to the first 2,000 fans and all full season ticket holders in attendance on Saturday night when the Kootenay Ice visit at 7:00.
