Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga ON - After dropping a 3-1 loss to the Peterborough Petes last evening, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors certainly turned things around as they defeated the visitors 4-2 at the Hershey Centre to finish off a home-and-home series tonight.

Mississauga's Jared Gomes earned four points in the win (4 assists), while defenceman Cameron Gaunce produced a goal and 2 assists to help drive home the victory. The Majors record shifts to 27-22-1-2 on the year, as a result.

The Majors got the lone goal to start things off in the 1st period, as Jordan Mayer connected at 8:22 off of passes from Gomes and Gaunce to grab an early 1-0 lead. The Majors outshot the Petes 18-4 in the frame.

It was all Mississauga in the 2nd period, as Casey Cizikas and Gaunce each wired a shot into Peterborough's net at 8:34 (power-play) and then at 11:00 (shorthanded), respectively, to make it 3-0. Gomes (2 assists) and Gaunce were the helpers.

The Petes got on the board in the 3rd period, as Tony Romano scored 1:29 into the frame with help from Sergey Korostin and Liam Heelis. However, Corey Bureau's tally coming at 8:58 made it 4-1 for the Majors. Gomes and Brett Flemming provided the feeds. Peterborough rounded out the frame with a marker coming at 18:56 on a man-advantage from Heelis, but the home squad was able to hang onto the lead to secure the win.

JP Anderson got the start in net for the Majors and blocked 25 shots, while Ryan Daniels made 32 saves for the Petes. Mississauga went 1 for 5 on the power-play, while Peterborough finished 0 for 9 on the night. The game's three stars were Gomes (1st), Mayer (2nd) and Gaunce (3rd).
