Spirit Outshoot Bulls in 5-1 Loss

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Belleville Bulls Friday night, 5-1. Spirit winger Joe Pleckaitis scored one goal in the effort. The Spirit are in second place in the OHL Western Conference with 61 points and a record of 29-18-0-3 for the season.

Winger Brandon Mashinter starting off scoring for the Bulls in the first period, knocking in a goal at 8:59. Assisting on the play was center Cory Tanaka, leaving the remainder of the first period scoreless. Halfway through the second period, Bellville center Cody Alcock found the net at 10:18 and was assisted by defensemen Marc Cantin and P.K. Subban. Cantin followed suit, adding another goal for Belleville at the 11:32 mark. Wingers Eric Tangradi and Brandon Mashinter assisted on the play. The second period ended with the Bulls ahead, 3-0.

Center Luke Pither kicked off the third period with a powerplay goal for Belleville at 1:10. Assists on the play came from defensemen Shawn Lalonde and P.K. Subban. The Spirit fought back, adding a goal from winger Joe Pleckaitis at 3:36 in the third period. Defenseman T. J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) assisted on the play. Pither capped scoring for the Bulls at the end of the period, receiving an assist from defenseman Nick Pageau to tally an empty net goal at 19:32. The game ended with Belleville ahead, 5-1.

Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale finished the game with 20 saves and Belleville netminder Mike Murphy posted 34 saves.
