Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were on fire as they hosted division rivals, the Brampton Battalion. Mississauga's strong effort clearly showed tonight as they defeated the visitors for the first time in seven games this season, 4-1. Majors starting goalie Chris Carrozzi looked sharp in net with a number of crucial saves on the night, and turned aside 28 shots in total. As a result, the Majors record moves to 36-25-1-2 on the season.

Mississauga got the action started when Ryan Lopes wired the puck into Brampton's net 7:27 into the 1st period, unassisted. Then, Evgeny Grachev answered back for the Battalion at 9:16, also unassisted, to tie things up. Jared Gomes ended the frame with a goal for the Majors at 17:26 with help from Casey Cizikas and Cameron Gaunce to make it 2-1.

The 2nd period saw Brampton losing steam, as Mississauga went ahead 4-1 heading into intermission. Gaunce and Blake Parlett (power-play) each scored at 10:22 and at 12:53, while Kale Kerbashian and Mike Pelech got the assists on both goals.

There was no scoring in the 3rd period. The Majors were outshot by the Battalion by a count of 11-2, and held onto the lead to take the win.

Carrozzi's 28 saves were countered by 10 saves made by Thomas McCollum of the Battalion. Mississauga went 2 for 3 on the power-play, while Brampton closed out 0 for 6 on the night. The stars were Carrozzi (1st), Lopes (2nd) and Pelech (3rd).
