Great Start Propels Windsor To 9-4 Victory Over Plymouth

PLYMOUTH - Windsor Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner was looking for something to get his team going tonight against the Plymouth Whalers in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight at Compuware Arena.

"When we had problems with Plymouth in past, we got off to a bad starts," Boughner said before the game. "We want to get off to a good start in the first ten minutes and take it from there."

The Spitfires did exactly that and more, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first 5:22 of the game in defeating Plymouth, 9-4, before 3,258. Windsor remains the top team in the Canadian Hockey League with a record of 56-7-0-1, good for 113 points. Plymouth is 34-25-5-0, good for 73 points and fourth place in the OHL's Western Conference.

Andrei Loktionov led the Windsor attack with the hat-trick (goals 21-22-23 on the year) with an assist and +4 as the game's first star. Ryan Ellis scored twice (20-21) with two assists and was +4 as the game's second star. Eric Wellwood scored a goal (13) and added two assists as the game's third star. Austin Watson (10), Greg Nemisz (36) and Dale Mitchell (32) all scored single goals for the Spitfires.

Trailing 7-0 after forty minutes of play, Plymouth received third period goals from Joe Gaynor (12), Tyler Seguin (20), Tyler J. Brown (12) and Vern Cooper (15). Jamie Devane contributed two assists for Plymouth.

Windsor outshot Plymouth, 49-32.
