Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Major League Soccer today announced the 2020 regular season schedule and national broadcast details through the end of September, as well as Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs qualification and competition format. Sounders FC's slate of three matches includes a home match vs. Los Angeles FC on Friday, September 18, as well as road fixtures against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday, September 23 and LA Galaxy on Sunday, September 27. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the September 18 home match is scheduled to be played without fans.
From September 18-27, each MLS club will compete in three regular season matches. Additional 2020 MLS regular season matches will be announced pending further developments regarding travel protocols.
The regional television home of the Rave Green, Q13 FOX / JOEtv is ready to resume broadcasting Sounders FC's matches throughout Western Washington, as well as Amazon Prime Video continuing to stream matches throughout the state of Washington. Over on Sports Radio KJR 950 AM, Sounders Weekly with Jackson Felts continues, airing Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. PT. The first two scheduled matches (September 18 and 23) are being broadcast on Sports Radio 950 AM KJR, with the third (September 27) set to air on 1090 KJR AM. The club's Spanish-language home El Rey 1360 AM is also carrying each match, with their studio show Somos Sounders FC continuing on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. PT. Both radio broadcasts are carrying 30-minute pre- and post-match shows surrounding each contest.
In addition to announcing regular season match details through September, MLS also today confirmed qualification details and the competition format for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.
The Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will again consist of single-elimination matches hosted by the higher-seeded team and follow a straight bracket format through MLS Cup on December 12.
As previously announced, in an expansion of the postseason for 2020, 18 clubs will compete in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. Eight teams from the 12-team Western Conference will qualify directly to Round 1. The top six seeds from the 14-team Eastern Conference will qualify directly to Round 1. Eastern Conference seeds 7-10 will each compete in a play-in match (No. 7 vs. No. 10, and No. 8 vs. No. 9) to determine the two additional Eastern Conference teams that will qualify for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs Round 1.
The lower-seeded advancing team will face the Eastern Conference No. 1 seed in Round 1, while the higher-seeded advancing team will face the Eastern Conference No. 2 seed.
The Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
