Major Firepower Acquired in Trade with Val d'Or
December 21, 2022 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The Halifax Mooseheads suddenly boast the top two scoring players in the QMJHL after a major trade to acquire 20-year-old forward Alexandre Doucet from the Val d'Or Foreurs.
Doucet is the league's leading goal scorer with 27 and is second only in total points to his new Halifax teammate Jordan Dumais with 53. General Manager Cam Russell made the big move today while sending a package of draft picks back to the Foreurs. The Mooseheads give up their 2023 1st round pick, a 2024 2nd round pick that originally belonged to Gatineau and a 2023 3rd round pick that was originally property of Cape Breton.
"He's a game-changer. We think this trade gives us one of the best players in the league this season and makes our lineup even more dangerous than it already was," Russell said.
This is the second massive addition to Halifax's forward group this season after 20-year-old Josh Lawrence was added in a deal with Blainville-Boisbriand in late November. The trade also leaves the Mooseheads with 15 forwards and one overage player over the limit, with Evan Boucher and Stephane Huard Jr also on the roster. Russell said that means there will need to be a corresponding move.
"We'll be addressing the 20-year-old situation. We're working on some things but there is nothing imminent at this point."
In Doucet, the Herd get a veteran player who is in his fifth season - all of which have been played with Val d'Or. The native of Sherbrooke, QC was a sixth round pick of the Foreurs in 2018 and enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22 with 33 goals and 75 points. He leads the QMJHL with seven shorthanded goals this season and adds to an incredibly talented group of forwards on the highest scoring team in the league. Halifax has scored 142 goals in 32 games this season, 12 more than the Quebec Remparts who have the second-most goals.

The 6-foot-tall, 187 pound winger went on a tear starting in November when he scored 17 goals and added eight assists in a span of 12 games. Doucet was the runner-up to Jordan Dumais for the QMJHL's Player of the Month Award in November. He has scored multiple goals in a game eight times this season and is the most effective shooter in the league by leading all players with an incredible 27.8 shooting percentage.
The Mooseheads lineup now features five players with 40 or more points this season in addition to Nashville Predators prospect Zachary L'Heureux who is scoring at a rate of 1.6 points per game in his 10 outings since returning from a long term injury.
