
Mainers move into first place with win at North Adams

The Sanford Mainers (13-8) have gone 9 and 1 in the last 10 games including a 5 game win streak! The Moose moved into first place in the Northern Division with a 5-1 victory over North Adams (8-12). Kendall Patrick and Cory Raley led the offense that set off some post-independence day fireworks in North Adams. The Mainers have won all 5 match-ups with the SteepleCats so far this season and can go for the season series sweep on July 25th at Goodall Park.
Kendall Patrick (Michigan) finished his day 2 for 5 with 2 RBI including a solo home run in the second inning to give the Moose a 1-0 lead. It was Patrick's first home run of the season. Corey Raley (Texas Tech) finished his day 3 for 5 with a single, double and a triple just a home run shy for the cycle. Caden Bailey (Georgia State) came was subbed in for Dan Hetzel (URI) in a pinch hitters role and drove in a run finishing 2 for 2. Matt Pagano (Marist) also replaced Sam Dexter (So. Maine) and worked a bases loaded walk bringing in another run same for Matt Harris (St. Johns) who was hit-by-a-pitch in Sam Balzano's (UMaine) spot in the order with the bases loaded to score the 5th and final run for the Mainers. In total the Mainers bats despite a team average of .209 coming into this match-up totaled 12 hits and got to starter Trevor Scott (0-1) who pitched a strong 7 innings despite giving up the solo-home run to Patrick in the 2nd, Scott, did not relinquish another run striking out 4. Mainers lefty Rich Vrana (2-0, Marist) was solid as well he worked 5 innings of 4 hit baseball not allowing a run while completing 6 K's in a no-decision dropping his already meniscal ERA from 0.50 to 0.40.
Sanford wins it going away 5-1 with a rally in the 8th scoring three runs and adding one more insurance run in the ninth to secure the victory in front of packed house at North Adams of 4,482. The Mainers have Sunday off but hit the road on Monday at Danbury looking to continue the winning streak that sits at 5 in a row! Brett Adcock (Michigan, 1-0, 6.00 ERA) will get the ball for his second start of the season at the Westerners who have lost 12 in a row.
The Laconia Muskrats (9-11) defeated the Vermont Mountaineers (12-8) 11-0 tonight putting the Mainers in first place by a half-game. It's the first time the Mainers have been in first place in the Northern Division this season.
