Mainers Lose Third Straight In New Bedford

New Bedford, MA - The Sanford Mainers lost their third consecutive game on Sunday, falling to the New Bedford Bay Sox by the final score of 4-3 in New Bedford. The loss drops the Mainers back to .500 on the season with a 17-17 record.

The first run of the game came across for New Bedford in the first. Brett Botsford led off and singled before advancing to second on a Bradley Shaban ground out. Mike DiBiase singled into left to score Botsford and make it 1-0 Bay Sox.

The second run scored for the home team in the third. DiBiase doubled and scored on a Trevor Edwards double, putting New Bedford up 2-0.

The lead grew once more in the sixth. Jake Berry walked and advanced to second on a Botsford single. Shaban advanced both men a base on a sacrifice bunt. DiBiase singled to score Berry and put Botsford on third. Edwards singled home Botsford to make it 4-0 Bay Sox.

Sanford finally got on the board in the ninth, but would come up short in the comeback bid. Tim Panetta led off and singled, and Pate Devlin reached on an error to but men on first and second. With one out Eric Hailer singled to load the bases. An error on a pick off attempt allowed Panetta and Devlin to score and put Hailer on third. Ryan Coppinger grounded out to score Hailer and make it a 4-3 game. Marlon Calbi flew out to center for the final out of the game, finishing a complete game for New Bedford starter Greg Terhune.
