
Mainers lose 3-2 to Plymouth

Sanford, ME- The Sanford Mainers (16-10) forced the issue against the Plymouth Pilgrims (21-6) in the bottom of the ninth, Cory Raley (Texas Tech) was in scoring position at second base when Kendall Patrick (Michigan) drove a single into left, Raley rounded third and came home, but left fielder Brent Rooker (Mississippi St.) had different ideas throwing a one hopper to catcher Logan Koch (So. Carolina Columbia) who applied the tag against Raley to end the game, Final 3-2.
Jeff Singer (Monmouth) would get no decision, finishing 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs and 4 strikeouts moving his ERA to 2.67. Mainers bullpen was put to work, Jon Nicklas (Boston College) operated in the 6th allowing just 1 hit and no runs, same for Jon Chudy (Pace) working the 7th allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. Brett Adcock (2-1, Michigan) was brought on the work the 8th inning and gets the loss as he allowed 1 earned run on two hits and 1 strikeout, which proved to be the winning run for the Pilgrims. Tyler Barss (URI) worked a scoreless 2/3 of an inning to give the Mainers a chance in the bottom of the 9th.
Plymouth was led by a slew of 2-for-4 nights by Mike Martin, Vin Guglietti, Matt Walsh with a double and Logan Koch who drove in an RBI as well. Thomas Roulis finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI as the Pilgrims left 10 runners on base compared to just 3 left on for the Mainers. Pilgrims pitcher Thomas Jankins (4-0) finally allowed a run, his first earned run in 32.2 innings pitched on his way to his 4th victory of the season.
Drake Parker (Vanderbilt) finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's, moving his team leading batting average from .286 coming into today to .308 for the season, still atop the Mainers batting order and the only Mainer batting in the .300's. Matt Pagano (Marist) finished 2-for-3 as well improving his batting-average for .271 for the season. Kendall Patrick finished 1-for-3 and his bid at the game tying RBI was denied.
Sanford falls to 16-10 and a half-game back of the Vermont Mountaineers (17-10) for first place in the Northern Division and have now lost two in a row. The Moose have the day off tomorrow and hit the road the entire week this week, at Mystic (7/14), at Ocean State (7/16), at Valley (7/18) and finishing out the week at Keene (7/19).
