SANFORD, Me. - The Mainers dropped potentially their final game at Goodall Park to Keene, 8-3. Thunderstorms suspended game two of the doubleheader.

The second game becomes an "if-needed" game and would likely be played on Sunday, July 31, depending on how the playoff race. Sanford sits half a game back of Ocean State after tonight's results.

Game one got off to a hot start for the Swamp Bats, in the top of the first, a sacrifice fly from Jackson Ross (Florida Atlantic) scored Tyler McKenzie (Vanderbilt), 1-0.

The Moose tied it in the bottom half as Jake Rainess (Maine) doubled and drove in Quinn McDaniel (Maine), 1-1. Rainess has six RBIs in the last four games, with at least one in each contest.

Keene took the lead right back in the second when Jaden Brown (Texas-Arlington) scored on a double play by the Mainers, 2-1.

Sanford had a chance to tie the game in the fourth on the single from Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown), but David Bermudez (Manhattan) was thrown out at home by Matt Almonte (Pace).

The Swamp Bats scored four runs to extend their lead to five.

First, a wild pitch allowed Almonte to score, then Caleb Pendleton (Florida Atlantic) drove in McKenzie on a single. Brandon Anderson (Louisville) brought in Ross and Pendleton on his single to cap off the fifth, 6-1.

A pair of sacrifice flies, one from Hewett and the other from Dapkewicz, cut the lead down to three, 6-3, but it was the closest the green and yellow would get.

McKenzie picked up a pair of RBIs in the seventh, extending the Keene lead back to five, and Sanford did not have any magic left in the tank.

Game two made it through one scoreless inning before the skies lit up with lightning and the rain poured down.

The Mainers are back in action tomorrow night as they hit the road to face Upper Valley, Ryan Douglas (UNC-Asheville) will be on the mound.

The two faced last week at Goodall Park and it fell in Sanford's favor, 5-4.
