OAK BLUFFS, Ma. - It's now or never for the Mainers as they sit two games back for the final wild-card spot after losing to Martha's Vineyard, 4-2. Similarly, in the first meeting between the two, the Sharks took the lead for good and didn't surrender it.

Sanford wasted no time getting ahead as they struck first in the second. Hits by David Bermudez (Manhattan) and Joey Rezek (East Carolina) put runners on the corners. A fielder's choice by Devan Bade (Binghamton) scored Bermudez, 1-0.

In the fourth, the Sharks scored a pair of runs thanks to two of their all-stars. First, an RBI double from Michael Synder (Washington) scored Danny Crossen (Northeastern), then Logan Chambers (Tennessee) singled and gave Vineyard the lead, 2-1.

A couple of innings later, deja vu hit the green and yellow as the Sharks doubled their lead. An RBI double from Cabot Maher (Villanova) drove in Crossen for the second time, 3-1.

The Mainers cut the lead down to one in the eighth as Joey Rezek (East Carolina) roped a double into right-center and scored Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown), 3-2.

Martha's Vineyard would stretch the lead back two in the bottom of the eighth, and Cam Hill (Georgia Tech) would shut the door in the ninth.

Sanford has now dropped four straight games since their doubleheader sweep of Mystic. In comparison, Vineyard has won seven straight and pulls within two games of Newport for the top spot in the Coastal.

The Moose return home and look to turn it around against Upper Valley on Wednesday night at Goodall Park. The Mainers have won the last two meetings with the Nighthawks.
