Newport Gulls 3 - Mystic Schooners 2

Dodd Stadium in Norwich, C.T. - The Newport Gulls (24-11) took down the division rival Mystic Schooners (20-15) thanks to terrific starting pitching.
The game was scoreless after four thanks to Newport's Logan McGuire and Mystic's Matthew Nunan who were shutting down the opposing offenses. Mystic blinked first in the top of the fifth when Luke Beckstein (Northeastern) scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0 Gulls. Newport expanded that lead in the seventh when Bryan Broecker (Michigan State) hit a single to make it 2-0. Meanwhile, Mcguire was dealing, throwing seven shutout innings with two hits allowed and five strikeouts for his longest outing of the season.
The Gulls got one more insurance run in the eighth on a solo home run off the bat of Kolton Freeman (Dartmouth) to make it a 3-0 game. Mystic got on the board in the bottom of the eighth after a two out, two run double from Anthony Donofrio (Quinnipiac). Although the tying run was on second, Newport was able to get the final four outs thanks to a save from Garret Simpson to win the ballgame.
The Gulls will return to Cardines Field for a doubleheader with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 3 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gulls will remain at Dodd to face the Ocean State Waves Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Keene SwampBats vs Winnipesaukee Muskrats Doubleheader
Alumni Field, Keene, NH - The Keene SwampBats (14-21) and Winnipesaukee Muskrats (14-19) both earned a win as they split a doubleheader Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
Game 1: Keene 8 - Winnipesaukee 5
W - Zachary Davidson 2-2 (Radford): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
L - Geoffrey Mosseau 1-2 (Maine Orono): 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER. 0 BB, 2 K
S - Nick Hohenstein 0-0 (Siena College): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
Winnipesaukee had an explosive start when Patrick Roche (Boston College) hit a solo home run to give the Muskrats a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning drove a double to right field to knock in two runs and give Winnipesaukee a three-run advantage.
In the top of the second with runners on first and second, Keene's Jaden Brown (Texas Arlington) tied up the game with one swing of the bat, hitting his second home run of the year. In the bottom of the inning, Brendan Concannon (Paris JC) hit another solo shot to regain a 4-3 lead for the Muskrats.
The SwampBats stormed back in the top of the third, scoring on a passed ball, followed by Brown's second three-run home run of the game and his third homer of the season. Brown finished 2-for-3 on the night with two home runs and six RBIs.
Game 2: Winnipesaukee 2 - Keene 1
W - Ian Murphy 1-0 (St. John's): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
L - Riley Skeen 2-4 (Florida Southwestern): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
S - Ryan Qualey 0-1 (UMass Dartmouth): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
The Muskrats looked to even the score in game two, getting things started in the top of the second with a lead-off single by Grayson Preslar (NC Asheville) followed by Sebastian Mueller (Quinnipiac) getting hit by a pitch. After advancing to third on a ground ball, Preslar was driven in by an RBI single to left field from Tyler Grodell (Mt. St. Mary's).
The SwampBats kept things interesting when Paxton Tomaini (Florida Southwestern), who had reached first earlier in the inning on a walk, stole second and was driven in on a single by James Broderick (Wake Forest) to even the score at 1-1.
The go-ahead run was scored by the Muskrats in the top of the sixth with Michael Borelli (Michael Borrelli) reaching second on a double and advancing to third on a single by Mueller. Borelli was driven in by Cole Palmeri (Colby College), who grounded out to third base, allowing Borelli to score the winning run.
Both teams return to play on Wednesday, July 20th, with the Muskrats playing another doubleheader against the Vermont Mountaineers, first game starting at 4:00 p.m. The SwampBats travel to Newport to take on the Gulls beginning at 6:35 p.m.
Ocean State Waves 9 - North Shore Navigators 8
W - Brooks Ey 3-1 (VCU) 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
L - Peyton Heisner 0-3 (Merrimack) 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Old Mountain Field in Kingstown R.I. - The Ocean State Waves (18-18) improved to .500 with a win over the North Shore Navigators (8-27).
The Navs took a second inning lead on the first home run of the season from Jack Penney (Notre Dame) to make it 1-0. In the third inning, Ocean State tied the game on a Drew Holderbach (Marietta) double, and they took the lead on a wild pitch. The Navs retook the lead in the fourth on a two-run home run from Connor Bertsch (Dartmouth) and a single from Justin Cassella (Elon) to make it 4-2 North Shore. Ocean State took command in the fifth, starting with a lead off home run from Holderbach.
The game was tied on a Blaine Lidsky (Stonehill) double. Later in the inning, Peter Ciuffreda (Lafayette) hit a go-ahead single, and an error by the defense allowed three runs to score to make it 7-4. The Navs chipped away in the sixth as Jonathan Luders (Seton Hall) drove in a run on an RBI groundout. One inning later, the Navs took an 8-7 lead on a wild pitch, walk, and a fielder' choice. The back and forth continued into the eighth as Ocean State scored the tying run on an error, and the go ahead run on an RBI fielder's choice by Max Johnson (Indiana). Through all the back and forth, Brooks Ey shut it down for the final 2.1 innings to give Ocean State the dramatic win.
The Waves will head to Dodd Stadium to face the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Navigators will return to Fraser Field to take on the Keene Swamp Bats on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
Vermont Mountaineers 12 - North Adams SteepleCats 4

L - Austin McKinney 1-2 (Pacific): 3.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
Montpelier Recreation Field in Montpelier, VT - The Vermont Mountaineers (29-6) continued their dominance in a 12-4 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats (8-27).
After the SteepleCats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Vermont's offense got to work. Evan Fox (Stony Brook) led off the bottom of the first inning with a double. Tom Josten (Central Florida) walked, then Santino Rosso (Hofstra) hit a 3-run home run to give the Mountaineers a two-run lead.
In the top of the third inning, Hunter Pasqualani (Central Connecticut State) led off with a double. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and was then driven in on a Tommy DiTullio (Bryant) sacrifice fly. Cedric Rose (UMass Lowell) followed that up with a solo home run to tie it up.
Once again, the Mountaineers responded. Josten hit a leadoff double in the bottom half of the inning, then came around to score on two separate fly balls. Vermont extended the lead in the fourth inning on a Christian Pregent (Stetson) sacrifice fly. In the fifth inning, Pregent earned another RBI on a double to make it 6-3.
North Adams' Ryan Magdic (Florida Southern) hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, but it was followed by more Vermont offense. The Mountaineers scored two runs off an error, and scored two more on a Stephen DiTomaso (George Washington) 2-run home run to make it 10-4.
Vermont's Zach Byron (Wofford) made sure North Adams' run total stayed the same from the seventh inning on, as he threw three shutout innings with one base runner and six strikeouts.
The Mountaineers will have a doubleheader today against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats that starts at 4 p.m. The SteepleCats will at home today for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with the Valley Blue Sox.
Bristol Blues 14 - Danbury Westerners 8
W - Alec Couture 2-0 (Hartford): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
L - Aaden Finateri 0-1 (Georgia Tech): 5.1 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Rogers Park in Danbury, CT - The Bristol Blues (26-9) defeated the Danbury Westerners (15-20) in a high-scoring affair.
The Blues and Westerners were tied at three entering the sixth inning. Ben Huber (Connecticut), Joseph Rios (Central Connecticut State), and Chaz Myers (Pacific) loaded the bases by reaching on an error, a walk, and a single respectively. Mat Smith (Southern Connecticut State) drove in the go-ahead run on a walk, then Jay Harry (Penn State) took a hit-by-pitch to make it 5-3. To blow the game completely open, Derek Tenney (Hartford) hit a grand slam over the center field wall to make it 9-3.
In the next inning, Rios, Boston Smith (Cincinnati), Myers all singled to load the bases with no one out. Mat Smith hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to seven runs. Harry hit an RBI double to make it 11-3. Danbury answered back in the bottom of the eighth inning with five runs of their own. The first run of those runs was scored on a fielder's choice, and the next four were scored on a Sam Mongelli (Sacred Heart) grand slam to make it 11-8 in Bristol's favor.
The Blues added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth and ended up winning by the score of 14-8.
The Blues and Westerners will rematch tomorrow at Muzzy Field at 6:30 p.m.
Martha's Vineyard Sharks 4 - Sanford Mainers 2

The Shark Tank in Oak Bluffs, MA - The Martha's Vineyard Sharks (22-13) extended their win streak to seven with a 4-2 win over the Sanford Mainers (16-20).
The Sharks were down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danny Crossen (Northeastern) was hit by a pitch, then driven in on a Michael Snyder (Washington) RBI double. Snyder was driven in on a Logan Chambers (Tennessee) single to make it 2-1.
Cabot Maher (Villanova) added insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI double. In the top of the eighth inning, Sanford's Joey Rezek (East Carolina) hit an RBI double to make it 3-2 in Vineyard's favor. The Sharks responded in the eighth inning with an insurance run, then Camron Hill threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to seal the victory.
The Sharks will look to gain ground on the Newport Gulls in the Coastal Division when they play a doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m. today. The Mainers will be hosting the Upper Valley Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. today.
