Mainers Drop Third Straight

For the third straight time this season, the Sanford Mainers have been unable to come out on top against the Laconia Muskrats. Tonight the Muskrats visited Goodall Park and took this meeting with a final score of 3-1.
The last time these two teams met, the Muskrats shut out the Mainers 1-0, and tonight that shut out play continued until the sixth inning.
The Mainers sent left handed pitcher, Tripp Davis to the mound for the second time this season. He looked to rebound from his first start against the North Adams SteepleCats. However, tonight, looked much of the same.
The first three hitters in the Muskrat line-up reached base on a lead off hit-by-pitch, followed by back-to-back singles. Davis changed his momentum in this early bases loaded jam, getting the next three hitters to retire to end the inning without any damage.
The pace would change the next inning, as Corey Stringer and Nick Camastro came around to score on a 2-RBI single by Marcus Davis. The Muskrats loaded the bases once again, but failed to bring in any more runs, causing Tripp Davis to finish his second inning of work with the game still in reach.
The score would remain at 2-0 in the Muskrat's favor, but the Mainers reduced their deficit to only one in the sixth inning. Jose Torralba and Paul Kronenfeld walked to start the inning and would be followed up by a single off the bat of Jordan Betts.
Anthony Hajjar had a bases loaded, no out situation to work with, and helped get the Mainers first and only run of the game with a sacrafice fly to center, scoring Torralba.
It stayed 2-1 heading into the ninth and the Muskrats added to their total one more time to make the score 3-1.
Nic Manuppelli came in to close it out for the Muskrats to record his second save of the season.
The unseen troubles in this game were the lack of hitting in bases loaded opportunities. The Muskrats loaded the bases eight times, and the Mainers followed suit four times. 12 hitters combined went hitless in bases loaded opportunities.
In the end of this game, 13 Muskrats were left on base and the Mainers were not too far behind leaving 8 of their own.
The Sanford Mainers continue having difficulties with the Laconia Muskrats, falling to them for the eleventh time in fifteen meetings all time.
The Mainers will be on the road tomorrow night to face the Newport Gulls. All the action will be live on Teamline from Cardines Field. Nate Jones is set to take the hill for the Moose. First pitch set for 6:35pm.
