Swamp Bats win streak extends to three with 11-6 win over Danbury

Keene, N.H. - The Swamp Bats continued their strong offensive play Thursday night against Danbury, defeating the Westerners 11-6. Three home runs for the Swamp Bats were to difference as they never trailed against Danbury.
Grant Kay (Omaha, Neb.) got things started for the Swamp Bats in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off of Danbury starter John Porter (Bronx, NY). It was Kay's second home run of the season, and second in as many days for Keene. He would finish up his second game as a Swamp Bat going 3-4 with the homer, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.
Carrying at 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third, the Swamp Bats took advantage of poor pitching from Porter along with poor fielding from Danbury to add to their lead. After Dylan Moore (Yorba Linda, Cal.) led of by getting hit by a pitch, an singles from Nelson Ward (Emerson, Ga.) and Kay loaded the bases for Keene. After Dylan De La Cruz (East Lyme, Conn.) grounded into a fielder's choice with Moore out at home, JP Sportman knocked a grand slam over the left-center field wall to give the Swamp Bats a 5-0 lead. It was Sportman's second home run of the season.
Joe Pistorese (Kalispel, Mont.) started for the Swamp Bats, allowing three runs in six innings of work while striking out three. With the Swamp Bats up 5-0 in the top of the fourth, Pistorese gave up a two-run home run to Danbury first-baseman Mike Orefice (Wappinger Falls, NY) that got the Westerners on the scoreboard. Pistorese earned the win tonight for the Swamp Bats.
The Swamp Bats would answer immediately in the bottom of the fourth when Kay scored Austin Wheeler (Lilburn, Ga.) on an RBI single to increase the lead to 6-2.
After giving up another run in the top of the fifth inning, Pistorese would collect himself and pitch a scoreless top of the sixth to complete his evening.
The Swamp Bats added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single from Fran Whitten (Westboro, Mass.) and again in the seventh off a two-run home run from Cameron O'Brien (Tulsa, Okla.) O'Brien continued his hot hitting for Keene, finishing the game 3-4 with the home run, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.
Though Danbury scored twice in the eighth inning and once in the ninth, it was not enough as they dropped to the Swamp Bats 11-6.
Sportman had a strong game for Keene, batting 2-4 with four runs batted in and three runs scored.
With the win, Keene improves to 4-1 on the season, while Danbury drops to 2-3.
The next game for the Swamp Bats is Saturday night against Western division leading North Adams. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
