LACONIA, Nh. - After coming from behind to defeat Winnipesaukee last weekend, the Mainers could not duplicate it on Friday night, dropping their second in a row, 8-3.

The loss puts Sanford at 9-12 on the year, as the Muskrats leapfrog them to third in the North Division and are 9-11.

It was a pitcher's duel for the first two innings, Patrick Harrington (Northeastern) for Winnipesaukee. While Jack Mullen (Bowdoin) getting his first start for the Mainers. However, it was the Muskrats that broke the scoreless tie.

In the bottom of the third back-to-back RBI doubles from Matt Alifano (Adelphi) and Kohl Abrams (UNC-Asheville) gave them the early advantage, 2-0.

Later, in the fifth, Winnipesaukee would tack on another run as Tyler Grodell (Mount St. Mary's) scored on an error by Sanford, 3-0.

Things broke wide open in the bottom of the sixth as Michael Borrelli (St. Anselm) sent a three-run homer over the left-field fence for his first of the year, 6-0.

The Mainers would not go away quietly as in the top of the seventh Grant Knipp (Campbell) connected on a moonshot deep to left-center, 6-2. It was his third of the season and second in three games.

Moments later, Jayson Kramer (St. John's) would drive in Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown), 6-3. They looked to add more with the bases loaded but could not come up clutch.

That was all Sanford would get as Patrick Cuchorullo (Montclair State) shut it down the rest of the way. Winnipesaukee would add another run in the seventh and eighth en route to the win.

The Mainers are back at home tomorrow night to take on the Ocean State Waves. The first pitch is for 6:30 p.m., with Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) stepping onto the mound. It will be the first meeting between the two sides.
