
Mountaineers Win Game Two of Governor's Cup

Hartford, VT - Vermont won their twentieth game of the season tonight against the Upper Valley NightHawks. The Mountaineers took game two of the Governor's Cup with a dominating eight to two win and lead the serious two to nothing on the year.
The Mountaineers struck first in the third inning getting one run on a sacrifice fly by Gerry Siracusa (Massachusetts Lowell U of, Kinnelon, New Jersey) to score Evan Fox (Stony Brook University, Ballston Spa, New York) who doubled, then advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring.
The fourth inning brought lots of action as Vermont and Upper Valley each scored a pair of runs to make it a three to two ball game. Vermont would continue to put two's on the board, scoring two runs in innings four, five and six. This offensive trend would give the Mountaineers a seven to two lead heading into the seventh inning.
Vermont had a diverse set of offensive weapons tonight with Adam Retzbach (Lehigh U, Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania), Gerry Siracusa (Massachusetts Lowell U of, Kinnelon, New Jersey), Tom Ruscitti ( Fairleigh Dickinson U, Bayville, New Jersey), Stephen Ditomaso ( George Washington U, Haddonfield, New Jersey) and Santino Rosso (Hofstra U, Rochester, New York) all recording at least one RBI on the night.
The score would stay the same until the top of the ninth, when Stephen Ditomaso ( George Washington U, Haddonfield, New Jersey) smacked a solo home run to deep left field, making it eight to two in favor of the Mountaineers.
The pitching was also a story as both sides tonight threw five different pitchers sending a diverse look for hitters to see in Upper Valley tonight. Vermont starter Carlos Torres (Lehigh U,Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) went three innings with six strikeouts, giving up the two runs on the night. Luke Carpenter ( Dartmouth Col, Charlotte, North Carolina) got the win for Vermont tonight going three innings, with two strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Jack Choate (Assumption Col, North Grafton, Massachusetts) for Upper Valley recorded the loss.
Vermont will play a home game tomorrow against the Valley Blue Sox, in the second matchup of the year. Vermont took game one just three days ago eight to zero. Make sure you catch all the action live on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
