
Mainers drop another tough one

The Sanford Mainers (4-6) are looking for answers after dropping their 4th straight game to with a 5-3 loss to the Keene Swamp Bats (4-7). The Mainers still hold the season series 2-1 after winning two at Alumni field in Keene over the past couple of weeks.
Bobby Ruse (0-1, Maryland) made his first start in a Mainers uniform and looked solid through 5 and 2/3 innings but found himself in trouble with the bases loaded in the 6th and was replaced by John Nicklas who surrendered 3 runs officially charged to Ruse. Nicklas worked his way out of the jam by striking out Taylor Perez to end the inning leaving 3 Swamp Bats on base.
Keene put the Mainers on the receiving end of a come from behind victory after Sanford took the lead in the 4th inning, Drake Parker singled to center field, Dan Hetzel who reached on a single of his own advanced to 2nd base and Kendall Patrick came home to score after reaching first base on a passed ball third strike call. Then Cory Raley found the base paths on an error by Swamp bats first baseman Connor Simonetti which brought in Dan Hetzel making it 2-0 after 4.
Keene tacked on 2 more insurance runs in the top of the 8th on 2 hits and one Moose error, Zach Lauricella singing driving in Brady Sheetz and Bret Dennis, Lauricella was caught in a run-down between first and second by Caden Bailey retiring the first out then Ryan Summers grounded out to second and Connor Simonetti struck out swinging to end the inning.
The 5-2 lead held despite the Mainers bringing in one more run in the bottom of the ninth on two errors plating Michael Rescigno. Robert Ruse (0-1) gets the loss after being charged with 3 runs and finishing with 8 strikeouts, and Eric Lauer (1-1) the 2013 17 th round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays gets the victory tossing 5 innings while walking 2 and retiring 6 via the strikeout allowing just 1 earned run.
