Mainers Defeat Raging Tide, Snap Three Game Skid

Sanford, ME - The Sanford Mainers halted a three-game losing streak on Monday, defeating the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide by the final score of 10-3. The win improves Sanford to 18-17 on the season.

The first run of the game went on the board for the Raging Tide in the second. Marcus Way and Kyle Stearns singled to start the inning. Thomas Bourdon singled with two outs to score Way and make it 1-0 Old Orchard Beach.

The Raging Tide plated a pair more in the third. Fran Whitten walked and scored on a Tim Quinn double. Way followed with a triple to score Whitten and Old Orchard Beach pushed their lead to 3-0.

From there it was all Sanford, starting in the bottom of the third. Tim Panetta singled and was retired on a fielder's choice that allowed Lincoln Sanborn to reach first base. Marlon Calbi walked and Brett Mollenhauer singled to load the bases. Justin Leisenheimer hit a sacrifice fly to left to plate Panetta and make it 3-1 Raging Tide.

The Mainers blew the game open in the fourth, taking their first lead of the game, which they would not give up. Mike Montville tripled and scored on when Jack Lupo reached second on a throwing error. Ryan Coppinger grounded out to move Lupo to third. Panetta walked and Sanborn singled home Lupo. Calbi reached on an error to load the bases before Mollenhauer reached on a two-base error that scored Panetta and Sanborn, giving Sanford a 4-3 lead. They weren't done, however, as Calbi scored on a passed ball that put Mollenhauer on third. Leisenheimer singled home Mollenhauer and Sanford led 7-3 after four.

Sanford added three more runs in the victory for a 10-3 final.
