Sanford Mainers News Release

LACONIA, N.H. - Held to only three hits in the ballgame, the Sanford Mainers (3-3) ran into plenty of good pitching at the hands of the Winnipesauke Muskrats (3-3) Wednesday night at Robbie Mills Park.

Jackson Tetreault (State Col. of Florida) picked up the win in a dominating performance, allowing just two hits and two walks in five innings of work. Tetreault set the tone from the get-go, retiring five of the first seven Mainers he faced by the strikeout.

The Muskrats bullpen dominated as well, reducing the Sanford offensive attack to just a hit and a walk through the last four innings of baseball. Overall, the Mainers would only have one extra base hit in the entire contest, a Garet Griffin (Mitchell College) double in the 9th.

Winnipesaukee initiated the scoring in the 5th inning. Anthony Godino (Wagner College) and Logan McRae (College of Charleston) reached base to start the inning, and after a pair of fly outs Godino scored on a wild pitch. A single later in the inning would score McRae to make it 2-0.

It was all the Muskrats needed, blowing the game open with eight runs in the 8th, including three home runs in the frame capped off by a Kievan Burges (Northwood) grand slam. The Muskrats sent 12 men to plate in all and slammed the door on any potential comeback attempt the Mainers could have mustered.

For Sanford, the pitching wasn't as bad as the box score would indicate. Nick Kuzia (UMass Lowell) was solid in his start for the Mainers, going four and two thirds in the loss, allowing three hits, two runs and a walk as he struck out three.

The Mainers have an off day before they return home to take on the Keene Swamp Bats for the first time this season at 6:30 PM July 17. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 PM on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
