
Maine Red Claws to Celebrate "National Girls & Women in Sports Day"

PORTLAND, Maine - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, announced today that the team will partner with the Maine Sports Commission to present a special panel to commemorate National Girls & Women In Sports Day prior to its home game on February 1.
The event, which will be held from 4:30-5:30 at the Clarion Hotel in Portland, will feature both locally and nationally recognized women in sports, and will include an open discussion about the role of women in sports, from playing to coaching to officiating.
The special panel will include:
- Sue Blauch - WNBA Referee Performance & Development
- Edniesha Curry - University of Maine Men's Basketball Assistant Coach
- Jo Dill - Maine Senior Games Coordinator, Southern Maine Agency on Aging
- Christy Gardner - U.S. Women's Para Ice Hockey
"The NBA has always been recognized as a champion of women in sports," said Dajuan Eubanks, Maine Red Claws President. "We recently had our first Red Claws game where all three officials were women. We are excited to bring this type of panel together for the Portland community."
"Our esteemed guests' impactful stories highlighting the positive impact of sports on their lives will inspire audience members of all ages!" said Sheila Brennan Nee, Director of the Maine Sports Commission.
Founded by tennis legend Billie Jean King,National Girls & Women In Sports Day has been celebrated in the United States for over three decades. Originating in 1987, the National Day legislature was passed through the support of many legislators, including then-U.S. Congresswoman Olympia Snowe. More info can be found at http://ngwsd.org.
Tickets to the event are $13, and include a ticket to the Red Claws game vs. Greensboro that night, which tips off at 7 p.m. at the Portland Expo. The Clarion Hotel is located at 1230 Congress Street in Portland.
