Austin Spurs News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (11-20) took the first two of a three-game homestand with a victory over the Austin Spurs (14-16) 111-103 Wednesday night in Frisco.
Keith Hornsby earned the first points for Texas, knocking down a long ball seconds into the game. Travis Trice II responded with an outside shot of his own for Austin and the back and forth began. After six lead changes, the Legends streaked through seven unanswered points to give them the edge they needed at the first buzzer. The Spurs regained the lead early in the second, but Texas responded with a 21-2 run to take their largest lead of the night 52-34. After four scoreless minutes, Demetri McCamey got the Spurs back on the board and cut the deficit to 13 at the break.
Texas continued to dominate the third, answering every attempt from the visitors. Austin's hot outside shooting caught up at the end of the quarter and brought the Spurs within seven. Daryl Macon hit the free throw line for his first two of 11 fourth-quarter attempts and built the gap back to double-digits early, but the Spurs answered outside to find themselves back on top with 2:34 to play. After three more lead changes, Texas finished the night with free throws seeing Macon knock down five in a row followed by six straight from Gary Trent Jr.
Trent Jr. led all scorers with 33 points, 4 rebounds. Macon came off the bench for 25 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block, and both Trent and Macon went perfect from the line combining for 26-of-26. Ray Spalding had his fourth straight double-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and a season-high 7 blocks, and Hornsby added 17 points, 7 rebounds, and a block.
Trice led the Spurs with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and a game-high 12 assists, and Drew Eubanks neared a double-double with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks. John Holland came off the bench to add 18 points and a game-high 4 steals.
The Legends finish off their home stretch Friday against the Northern Arizona Suns (6-25) at 7:30pm CT. For tickets or information call 214-469-0822 or visit www.TexLegends.com.
