Kitchener Rangers News Release
Nick Magyar scored twice and added an assist to lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 5-2 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night.
Nick Magyar put the Rangers on the board first, opening the scoring at the 13:44 mark. The Colorado Avalanche prospect chipped a shot over Attack netminder Jack Flinn for his 10th of the season. Brandon Robinson picked up the lone assist on the play.
Kitchener led shots on goal 15-8 after 20 minutes.
Magyar added his second of the game early in the middle frame, pushing the Rangers ahead 2-0. The sophomore picked up the puck near the blueline, stepped around the defender and slid it under Flinn. Robinson earned his second helper of the night on the goal. Linemate Ryan MacInnis also picked up an assist.
Robinson scored his team-leading 16th of the season less than four minutes later, lifting a backhand chip shot by Flinn. Magyar picked up his third point of the game with a helper on the play.
The Rangers out-shot Owen Sound by a 15-5 margin in the second period.
Overage forward Erik Bradford put the Attack on the board 22 seconds into the third period. The power play marker was the former Ottawa 67's centre's 18th of the season assisted by Thomas Schemitsch and Chris Bigras.
Second-year forward Mason Kohn restored the Rangers three goal lead just past the three minute mark. Flinn blocked a shot, but the loose puck landed in the crease and the Florida native pushed it over the goal line for his third of the season.
Freshman Adam Mascherin put the Rangers ahead 5-1 with less than 11 minutes to play. The Rangers first-round pick in the 2014 Priority Selection fired a shot high glove past Flinn, potting his ninth of the year.
Jeffery Gilligan added one more for the Attack, scoring an unassisted marker at 13:08, but that was as close as Owen Sound would get. The tally was the second year pivot's ninth of the season.
Kitchener lead shots on goal 17-6 in the third period and 47-19 overall.
With the win, the Rangers leapfrog the Attack and sit in sixth place in the Western Conference.
