New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- On the eve of his 25th birthday, Trystan Magnuson extended his scoreless streak to 21.2 innings to earn his first win since August 29, 2009, and Adam Loewen went 3-for-4 with a two-run tiebreaking single to lift the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to their 17th come-from-behind victory of the season, 5-3, over the Altoona Curve before a crowd of 6,345 on Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Magnuson (1-0) worked out of a one-out jam with runners on the corners in the eighth by inducing an inning-ending double play from Jim Negrych to preserve a 3-3 tie, marking his 15th straight scoreless appearance dating back to April 22.

The Fisher Cats (35-22) completed their comeback from a 3-0 deficit by stringing together four consecutive singles off losing pitcher Michael Dubee in the bottom of the eighth. Danny Perales (1-for-4, R), Eric Thames (1-for-4, R) and Shawn Bowman loaded the bases with singles, before Loewen singled through the drawn-in infield to give New Hampshire its first lead of the series, 5-3.

Danny Farquhar fanned two batters in a scoreless ninth to notch his 13th save, moving into a tie for the Eastern League lead.

Dubee (2-1) suffered his first loss after allowing two runs on five hits in 1.2 innings.

Altoona (37-19) took advantage of uncharacteristic wildness from Kyle Drabek to score three runs in the top of the second inning. Drabek issued three walks, including a bases-loaded free pass to Chase d'Arnaud (0-for-4, BB, RBI) and a two-run single to the league's leading hitter, Alex Presley (2-for-4, 2 RBI, SB), for a 3-0 lead.

Drabek settled down from there, allowing only three base runners over his remaining three innings. The right-hander matched season highs with eight strikeouts and five walks, allowing three runs on three hits in five frames. Drabek reclaimed the league lead in strikeouts (63) and innings pitched (72.2), but did not figure in a decision for the first time in his 12 starts this season.

New Hampshire began mounting its rally when Bowman (2-for-4, HR) cracked his eighth homer of the season, and fourth in five games, depositing a solo shot off Curve starter Bryan Morris into the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den with two outs in the fourth, reducing Altoona's lead to 3-1.

That's all the Fisher Cats would muster against Morris, who yielded one run on two hits in six innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.

New Hampshire pounced on reliever Jeff Sues in the seventh when Loewen (3-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI) hit a grounds-rule double to left before Jonathan Jaspe and David Cooper drew back-to-back walks. Manny Mayorson (1-for-4, 2 RBI) tied the game, 3-3, with a two-run single through the box.

The Fisher Cats conclude their three-game series with the Curve on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm with New Hampshire right-hander Ronald Uviedo (0-2, 2.96) making his Fisher Cats' debut against the team he was with just four days ago, the Curve. Uviedo's former teammate Jared Hughes (8-2, 3.75) seeks his league-leading ninth win of the year for Altoona. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 1:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy and Bob Lipman.

The first 2,000 fans on hand for Sunday's 1:35pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium will receive a free Fisher Cats hat, courtesy of U.S. Cellular. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
