Magic Stomp the Mad Ants

December 10, 2019 - NBA G League (G League) - Lakeland Magic News Release

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 102-91 in front of a home crowd at the RP Funding Center.

The Magic got off to a solid start and led by as much as 16 points in the half. Amile Jefferson, on assignment from Orlando, posted 12 points and 7 rebounds in the first two quarters to lift the Magic over the Mad Ants 49-42 heading into the locker room.

The Mad Ants cut the Magic lead to just 7 points on a running layup shot by Walt Lemon Jr. The Magic went on an 8-0 scoring drive to increase the lead to 71-56 with 3:41 remaining in the third. The ants came marching back with a 14-0 run making it a one-point, 71-70 game heading into the final quarter of play. The Mad Ants tied it up at 78-78 with 8:05 remaining on a three by Stephan Hicks but the Magic followed up with 9-0 scoring drive increasing the lead to nine points with 5:22 to go. Lakeland would extend the lead to 16 points matching the highest lead of the game with 1:28 remaining and would go on to secure the 102-91 final.

For Lakeland, all five starters were in double figures led by Assignment Player, Amile Jefferson with the double-double 27 points and 14 rebounds. Melvin Frazier Jr. was also on Assignment for Lakeland scoring 12 points and 3 rebounds. Josh Magette had a double-double with 20 points and 12 assists. Vic Law had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. BJ Johnson was a key contributor with 17 points and 5 rebounds.

Walt Lemon Jr. led the way for the Mad Ants with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. C.J. Wilcox scored 17 points, while Stephan Hicks posted 12 points and 7 rebounds. JaKeenan Gant came off the bench to score 14 points and 6 rebounds. Tre Kelley also scored 11 points and 3 rebounds on the night.

The Lakeland Magic are back at home on Friday night to take on Capital City Go-Go. Tip-off at the RP Funding Center is set for 7:00 pm. The game will be available on
