Bismarck, N.D. (Feb. 27, 2011) - The Fort Wayne Mad (17-20) Ants bounced back from a loss Saturday night to defeat the Dakota Wizards (12-25) 117-111 Sunday afternoon at the Bismarck Civic Center. Darnell Lazare led the way for the Mad Ants scoring a game high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field.
The victory avoided a season sweep for the Wizards over the Mad Ants.
The Mad Ants led throughout most of the first quarter until back to back baskets by Mike Anderson and Chris Ayer gave Dakota a four point lead which turned out to be Dakotas biggest and only lead of the game. The Mad Ants countered with back to back baskets of their own by Rod Wilmont and Marvin Phillips to tie the score at 23 after the first. Fort Wayne controlled the second quarter outscoring the Wizards 41-26 to lead 64-49 at the break. Lazare scored 17 of his 26 points in the first half to lead Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne led the whole third quarter and led by as many as 16 in the quarter. Dakota countered with a late 12-5 to cut the lead to 91-84 on a Renaldo Major lay-up at the end of the quarter. The Wizards cut the lead to 113 -111 on a dunk by Chris Ayer with 19.1 seconds left in the game but Fort Wayne would convert free-throws down the stretch to hang on and win 117-111. The Mad Ants went 9-of-9 from the stripe in the fourth quarter.
Walker Russell added 24 points for the Mad Ants and Wayne Chism recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Anthony Goods led the way for Dakota scoring 25 points and Maurice Baker recorded another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The travel to the east coast this week to face the Maine Red Claws on Thursday and the Springfield Armor on Friday.
